Report from Colombian journalist hints at free transfer Tottenham swoop for winger Paratici knows well

Juan Cuadrado Juventus

Tottenham appear to have been given a lift in their reported interest in signing Juventus winger Juan Cuadrado this summer.

Reports in Italy emerged towards the end of March that the former Chelsea attacker had been approached by Spurs, with his contract due to run out at the end of the season.

Indeed, it was suggested that player’s agents had received contact from Fabio Paratici, who worked with the Colombian in Turin, and that the Tottenham sporting director would be ‘glad to welcome him’ in north London.

News on the potential transfer has gone quiet since then. However, Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra, who reported exclusively that ‘despite having reached a verbal agreement last October’ with Juventus, the player ‘has not yet renewed’ his contract.

The reason given for that is stated that Juve want to offer Cuadrado two more years, with the option of a third. However, that would be at a reduced salary, which is not what the forward wants.

Cuadrado wants the two-year deal but at the same salary he is on now.

Given the current impasse between the Turin side and the experienced winger, Tottenham have been tipped to swoop.

Cuadrado is no stranger to the Premier League, although his Chelsea spell was hardly a success.

He failed to score in 15 appearances for the club before being loaned to Juventus and then eventually sold.

Things have gone much better for Cuadrado in Italy, however. Indeed, the winger has notched 24 times in 262 games for Juve, while also winning five Serie A titles.

He has also been a stalwart for Colombia, making 111 appearances for his country.

If he was to join Tottenham, however, it would likely mean one or two players leaving first.

Both Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn have been reduced to bit-part roles since Dejan Kulusevski’s arrival at the club.

Ajax were growing significant interest in the Dutchman in January and could renew that his summer.
