Tottenham to kickstart summer overhaul with incredible signing of Real Madrid man after Ancelotti sanctions exit

Tottenham could look completely different by the time the 2023-24 season starts as they will likely have a new manager and several new players in their squad, with a Real Madrid star becoming the latest target.

Antonio Conte is out of contract in the summer and this is leading to rumours that the Italian could walk away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Tottenham would be disappointed to see him leave, given his huge ambition and record of winning trophies.

However, chairman Daniel Levy does have a plan in case Conte departs. He is more than happy to re-appoint Mauricio Pochettino. The 50-year-old would likely be welcomed back by Spurs fans with open arms after his impressive first spell in north London. If Pochettino rejects their advances, then Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton may be pursued.

Pochettino will need several players to leave and a few big names to arrive if he joins. The current squad has some top talent including the likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, but it is not at the same level as Manchester City’s or Arsenal’s.

It recently emerged that Spurs are big fans of ex-Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger, though he is not the only Real Madrid player in their sights.

According to the latest Football Insider, Spurs are keen to bring in Spanish winger Marco Asensio from the La Liga giants. They are ‘tracking’ his situation and will move in if he does not renew his contract at the Bernabeu.

Asensio’s current deal expires in June, just like Conte’s. As such, he is free to negotiate with foreign clubs over a free transfer this summer.

Real boss Carlo Ancelotti has seemingly given the wide man his blessing to find a new team. The manager recently admitted ‘I don’t care much’ about Asensio’s contract situation. He wants Asensio to focus on the remainder of Real’s matches this season before making a decision on his future.

Real Madrid willing to let Tottenham target go

But comments like this will not help to convince the Spain international that he is welcome to stay at Real. Instead, he might just be leaning towards a new challenge in a different league.

Spurs are willing to offer him this opportunity. Asensio has never played outside of Spain so he might be attracted by the prospect of competing in the Premier League.

And Asensio would be a fantastic capture for the north London club. He is a Champions League-level attacker who can score or assist in the biggest of games.

But there are two hurdles Spurs must overcome before they can land Asensio. The first is rival interest from other Premier League teams.

Football Insider state Manchester United and Arsenal are also keeping tabs on his situation. Therefore, Spurs will need to fend off them by offering Asensio better wages.

The second factor to consider is whether Spurs are playing Champions League football next term. Asensio is used to competing in Europe’s primary club competition, having won it three times with Real.

Therefore, he will not want to drop out of the UCL by playing for Spurs in the Europa League or Europa Conference League.

Spurs currently sit in fourth place, one point above Newcastle United in fifth. The Magpies have a game in hand.

If Spurs qualify for next season’s UCL by managing a top-four finish, then this will give them a good chance at signing Asensio. But if they miss out and only make the Europa League, then they may have to watch him join a fierce rival such as Arsenal or Man Utd.

Meanwhile, Spurs are reportedly chasing one of Newcastle’s best players.
