Tottenham come to firm Lucas Moura decision amid huge Dejan Kulusevski impact

Tottenham are reported to have told Lucas Moura their intentions for him this summer after the Brazilian saw his first-team prospects limited by Dejan Kulusevski.

Sweden star Kulusevski was one of two January signings made by Fabio Paratici as part of his Tottenham rebuild. The 21-year-old arrived from Juventus on an initial 18-month loan that can become permanent in summer 2023. And Kulusevski has quickly made his mark in north London with two goals and four assists from nine Premier League appearances.

As such, he looks to be a firm fixture in Antonio Conte’s side. Indeed, he’s quickly developed a good understanding alongside Harry Kane and Heung-min Son in the Spurs attack.

However, his impact means the first-team prospects for Lucas Moura have taken a serious nosedive. As such, the Brazilian last started a Premier League game on February 13.

Furthermore, Lucas last scored for Spurs in the FA Cup third-round tie against Morecambe on January 9 – his only goal this calendar year.

The Brazilian, as such, finds himself subject to some speculation over his future.

He is contracted to Spurs until summer 2024, meaning the peak time to sell him will likely be this summer.

However, Football Insider, citing a source connected to Tottenham, insist they have no plans to part ways with Lucas in the summer window.

Despite his lack of action, he remains a critical member of Conte’s squad. Furthermore, the player has been assured chances will still come his way and they do not want to lose him.

And despite seeing the goals dry up, somewhat, Lucas has more than done enough to prove his worth to Conte.

He has a total of six goals and six assists across 37 outings this term. He also remains a hugely popular figure among the Tottenham faithful.

Conte lays down Lucas Moura challenge

Conte himself spoke about Lucas back in December, challenging him having more impact in front of goal.

After scoring in a 3-0 win over Norwich, Conte told the Brazilian he wants to see more of the same from him.

“I think he scored an amazing goal. But he has the quality to score more goals and he has to score more goals in the rest of the season.

“We need this type of situation. He’s very good, I think in front we have great quality with important strikers.

“Lucas has great quality and surely my expectation is to see much more goals like this. But this was a good performance with and without the ball.”

Despite since signing Kulusevski, Lucas will be encouraged by claims that Conte still wants to keep him.

The star himself made clear his plans to re-sign for a former club back in September once his deal at Spurs expires.
