Man Utd take backseat as Tottenham get nod to pursue Barcelona forward told to ‘seek offers’

Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres, Barcelona, February 2023

Ansu Fati has reportedly ‘welcomed’ interest from ‘teams like Tottenham’, as Barcelona have apparently told him to ‘seek offers’ from other clubs.

Interest in Fati has been reported for some time. Manchester United are one of the main names in the hunt, they’re said to be ‘especially’ interested.

Indeed, that the forward has worked his way firmly into the plans of Barcelona at the age of 20 gives reason to that interest.

Fati has played just shy of 100 games for the La Liga giants. In that time, he’s scored 26 goals and provided nine assists.

This season, he’s featured more often than he has at any stage of his senior career. The winger has played 41 times in all competitions, including 26 league games.

A regular starting spot in the squad is hard to come by, though. It’s not hard to see why, with Barca top of La Liga, holding a 13-point lead over rivals Real Madrid.

As such, while Fati has featured often, a lot of the time he’s been introduced from the bench. Indeed, 15 of his 26 league appearances have seen him come on as a substitute.

And with his role not a crucial one, he could be on the move.

Fati happy with interest from ‘teams like Tottenham’

A report from Mundo Deportivo suggests his agent has been told to ‘seek offers’ for the star. Indeed, the ‘green light’ to leave has led Jorge Mendes to go in search of Fati’s next club.

He’s apparently ‘presented his client’ with offers from Man Utd, Tottenham and Bayern Munich.

The report adds Mendes has informed Fati about the plans each club has for him. It seems Spurs’ is the proposal that has stood out most.

It’s stated Fati has ‘welcomed teams like Tottenham wanting to sign him’. While that’ll give them a boost, the pursuit isn’t likely to be plain sailing.

Indeed, the Spaniard apparently has a desire to ‘continue at Camp Nou’.

Tottenham could convince star to join

The report also adds Fati feels it’s ‘too early to give up the dream’ of playing for Barcelona. As such, he’s ‘said no’ to Tottenham, along with the other interested clubs.

However, it might not be his choice on whether he stays or goes. If he’s been told he’ll be moved on, it’s unlikely that will change.

Given recent reports have suggested Barcelona could be forced into some sales, that seems especially true, and his could be one of those.

That opens the door for Tottenham, as the only named side that Fati welcomed interest from, to swoop. That he was happy with the interest means the convincing should not be too hard.

They’d need only to show him how important he would be to their project. Given Heung-min Son started the season slowly, Richarlison has not yet hit the mark at the club and Dejan Kulusevski was much more effective last season, Spurs should be able to offer Fati a large role.
