Man Utd target put up for sale, as Euro giant spy Tottenham star as head-scratching replacement
Inter Milan have alerted all three of Man Utd, Chelsea and Tottenham after putting one of their finest stars up for sale, and a report claims they’ve locked on to a Spurs player as his surprise replacement.
The Premier League trio are all understood to be seeking an addition at either right-back or right wing-back.
Erik ten Hag clearly doesn’t fancy Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The ex-Crystal Palace star split time almost equally with Diogo Dalot last year, though his tally of minutes under the Dutchman this season stands at a measly four.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have one of the finest right-sided defenders in world football on their books in Reece James.
However, James continues to pick up injury after injury and his primary back-up, Cesar Azpilicueta, is 33.
Tottenham have plenty of right wing-backs for Conte to choose from, though none are ideal.
Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty both have an error in them and neither provide the type of attacking returns a top level wing-back is expected to produce. £20m signing Djed Spence hasn’t got a look-in and has been backed to leave in January.
A perfect addition for all three would be Inter Milan and Netherlands flier, Denzel Dumfries. The EPL trio have all drawn links with the 26-year-old over recent months and the latest from Italy makes great reading for the threesome.
Inter eye suspect Tottenham star to replace Dumfries
Corriere dello Sport report Inter’s delicate financial position has prompted them into admitting a high profile January exit is required. After careful deliberation, they’ve decided Dumfries is the man to go.
Dumfries – who has bagged four goals and four assists from wing-back this season – was previously valued around the £26m mark. However, Football Italia state Inter hope a bidding war could allow them to recoup as much as €40m (approx. £34.5m).
Calciomercato recently claimed it’s Chelsea ‘above all’ that are eyeing up Dumfries. However, now that the Dutchman is seemingly up for sale, Tottenham and Man Utd may well ramp up their own moves.
If Inter do cash in on Dumfries in January, it’s surprisingly claimed they’ve locked on to Emerson Royal as his replacement.
The Brazilian has started at right wing-back more than any other player this season for Conte. However, he rarely looks comfortable and Inter’s interest is something of a surprise. Indeed, going from Achraf Hakimi to Dumfries and then to Emerson would be an eye-watering step backwards.
Regardless, Inter were reportedly interested in acquiring Emerson back in 2021 before he left Barcelona for Spurs.
They may complete their unfinished business in January if Dumfries departs. Football Italia reckon the likeliest scenario would see Emerson leave on a loan with an option or obligation to buy included.
Of course, Tottenham would likely only be open to moving Emerson on if they had a replacement lined up. As such, the battle to sign Dumfries in five weeks’ time could be a fierce one.
