Inter Milan hurried into deal for star with Tottenham at the door

Milan Skriniar Inter Milan March 2022

Inter Milan are reportedly being pressured into offering a new contract to defender Milan Skriniar due to interest from Tottenham boss Antonio Conte.

Skriniar has been integral to the success of Inter over the last 18 months. The 27-year-old has made 25 starts from 29 Serie A games this season under Simone Inzaghi. The Slovakia international was also a key figure for Conte last season as Inter lifted the Scudetto.

That has led to interest in the centre-back from Spurs boss Conte. The link between Skriniar and Conte is one that Inter are fearful of. And with that in mind they intend to get the defender tied down to a new deal.

Skriniar’s current contract expires in 2023, making him ripe for a transfer this summer.

But according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, via Sport Witness, the Italian club are now keen to get the Slovakian tied into a new long-term deal.

Inter would like to tie the former Sampdoria man to pen a deal until 2027. A deal similar to that of Nicolo Barella, who was handed a €4.5m per-year contract plus bonuses, would likely be enough to get the player to sign.

Just why they have not made moves so far is unclear. But the paper explains that there is only one “urgency” on Inter’s agenda.

Directors Giuseppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio are determined to get their man to stay. And they are now ready to go to the negotiating table to do so.

Skriniar wants to stay

They will be helped by the fact that Skriniar wants to stay, as per the report.

Despite talk of interest from Conte, the towering defender has no desire to quit the Serie A champions.

According to Calciomercato in the summer, new Tottenham managing director, Fabio Paratici, is eager for the club to target Skriniar again. The former Juventus director wanted to sign him during his time in Italy. And he has apparently carried that interest with him to north London.

Given that Spurs were already keen on Skriniar before Paratici’s arrival, an offer for the player would not be a surprise.

They would be prepared to offer wages of considerably more than the £71,000 a week that Barella agreed to in November.

But with no desire to quit the club, Inter remain firmly in the driving seat.
