Conte, Paratici influence can’t sway Tottenham target, as defender reveals future decision

Milan Skriniar Inter Milan March 2022

Tottenham will have to look elsewhere to strengthen their defence this summer after top target Milan Skriniar confirmed he wants to remain at Inter Milan.

Inter were understood to be fearful of Spurs boss Antonio Conte luring the defender to England. The Slovakia international was a key figure for Conte last season as Inter lifted the Scudetto.

That has led to interest in the centre-back from Tottenham boss Conte.

Skriniar’s current contract expires in 2023, making him ripe for a transfer this summer. But the suggestions have always been that the 27-year-old had no desire to leave the San Siro.

According to Calciomercato in the summer, new spurs managing director Fabio Paratici was keen for the club to target Skriniar.

The former Juventus director wanted to sign him during his time in Italy. And he apparently carried that interest with him to north London.

But that interest from both Conte and Paratici now looks futile after Skriniar said he will look to extend his time in Milan.

The centre-back has been back in Slovakia this week to receive the award as the best Slovakian player for the third year in a row.

Antonio Conte doesn’t want Sergio Reguilon at Spurs after the summer

Antonio Conte has made it clear that Sergio Reguilon is free to leave Tottenham this summer and join Barcelona or Real Madrid

Asked if he would stay beyond 2023, Skriniar said: “I think I’ll stay longer and I imagine the club will offer me a new contract.

Skriniar contract likely to be until 2027

“We won the title last season and we can repeat ourselves this term,” the defender said, as quoted by FCInternews.

“We are a bit behind in the table, but Serie A is a balanced league and we’ll get back to winning ways soon. Milan and Napoli are ahead of us, but we have a game in hand. We want the title and we’ll do everything to do it.

<“My contract runs out in 2023, but I think I’ll stay longer. I imagine that club directors are happy and want to offer me a new deal.”

Skriniar, who has played more than 200 games for Inter, is expected to sign a new deal until 2027, as per Gazzetta Dello Sport recently.

Skriniar will join a host of Inter stars, who have recently committed their futures to the club. Nicolo Barella and Lautaro Martinez has signed new deals, while Marcelo Brozovic is also close to agreeing terms.

Barella was handed a €4.5m per-year contract plus bonuses and Skriniar is expecting something similar.
