Nagelsmann to Tottenham: Sky Sports reporter drops huge claim as timeline on appointment and Conte ramifications emerge

Tottenham have been given a huge boost in their quest for a new manager amid strong claims that ousted former Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann is open to the role, though any possible appointment comes with a major caveat.
The north London club are currently deliberating their options with Antonio Conte’s position hanging by a thread. The Italian’s deal is due to expire this summer after 20 months in the job. And while there is an option to extend, there appears little desire from either party to take up that chance.
Currently back in Italy, Conte signed what many considered the death-knell on his reign with an incredible rant at their players and owners last Saturday. Speaking what some perceive as some brutal home truths, Conte let rip following their disappointing 3-3 draw at Southampton.
As a result, chairman Daniel Levy is ready to rip up Conte’s contract early, though that could come at a cost of £5m.
Nonetheless, Conte’s rant appears to have lost him the dressing room and a change may be in their best interests.
But Levy must decide if their push for a top-four finish is better served with, or without, Conte at the helm.
A big factor to consider is on whom they decide they want to succeed him in the job.
To that end, Mauricio Pochettino is being strongly linked with a return to the club. Currently out of work and seemingly open to the job, it is not know whether he would come to Tottenham now or in the summer.
There are other options though too. Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi is admired, while Eintracht Frankfurt’s Oliver Glasner is another under consideration.

Naglesmann open to Tottenham talks
However, a new favourite seems to be emerging after the departure of Naglesmann at Bayern Munich on Friday.
The 35-year-old was surprisingly axed by Bayern after just under two years in charge. And while he has them firmly in the mix for his second successive Bundesliga title as well as the Champions League, the axe has surprisingly fallen on his reign.
And the Bundesliga giants have acted swiftly by bringing in Thomas Tuchel as his replacement.
That decision, though, has now opened the door for a move to Tottenham.
And with Levy having tried to appoint Nagelsmann when axing Pochettino in 2019, there now looks a genuine opening.
To further aid their cause, Nagelsmann reportedly followed Tottenham as a boy thanks to Jurgen Klinsmann.
Now trusted Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy claims Nagelsmann is ‘open to talks with Tottenham about becoming their next manager’.
That will be music to Spurs’ ears, though there is a major hurdle to cross in that process.
That comes with Reddy claiming the German wants ‘a period of reflection’ before jumping straight into his next appointment.
That would likely delay any possible appointment by Spurs for Nagelsmann until the summer.
And as a result, Reddy says that ‘Conte seeing out his contract and trying to continue steering the team into fourth place has still not been ruled out’.
However, Tottenham are seemingly willing to wait for Nagelsmann with the former Hoffenheim and Leipzig coach now the top choice.
