Next Tottenham manager: Key Nagelsmann alternative ‘can’t’ be ruled out; Levy target ‘open’ to Spurs job

Feyenoord manager Arne Slot could still become Tottenham Hotspur’s new boss next season, despite Julian Nagelsmann being the favourite.

Reports suggest the Dutch coach could be ‘open’ to a move to the Premier League. This comes after he came close to joining Leeds United in January.

Tottenham have had another very disappointing season. So, it is absolutely vital that club chairman Daniel Levy gets his next appointment right.

Indeed, Spurs currently sit in sixth place in the Premier League table – six points adrift of the top four with three games remaining. As a result, they look destined to miss out on Champions League qualification.

The London club have had three different managers this season: Antonio Conte, Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason. Now, Levy is on the hunt for his next.

As mentioned, Nagelsmann is still the big favourite to land the job. Indeed, The 35-year-old has already held talks with the Tottenham hierarchy.

But, there could still be some twists ahead of next season, and Slot is another candidate who is being seriously considered.

Journo refuses to rule out Slot appointment

Now, according to Dutch journalist Martijn Krabbendam, Slot can’t be ruled out of the Tottenham manager race just yet.

“In my gut, I say Slot will stay,” he wrote for Voetbal International.

“He gets everything he wants. Van de Belt, Zerrouki, his assistant has extended his contract. And he himself is also still fixed until 2025. There is no reason to assume he would want to leave.

“But when Leeds came in winter, he was open to that. If another club like that comes from England with a lot of potential, I don’t rule out him still wanting to try.

“That is why it is so tricky; I can say now that he is staying and then three weeks later, he still leaves.”

“I’m afraid you can ask this question every week this summer,” added fellow journalist Simon Zwartkruis.

“The answer will not come. Knowing his ambitions, it will depend on the level of the club that might come. I think he can aim higher than Leeds and it’s worth waiting for that.”

This season, Slot has guided Feyenoord towards their first Eredivisie title since 2017. As it stands, the Dutch giants are eight points clear at the top of the table.

That is exactly the kind of impact Tottenham need from their next managerial appointment. So, it will be interesting to see if they do make a concrete move to appoint Slot at the end of the season.

Although, Spurs could have to pay a record-breaking compensation fee to bring him in. So, Spurs will have to put their money where their mouth is to get a deal done.
