Next Tottenham manager: End in sight as Levy guns for double title winner who’ll unleash ‘high-octane’ football
Daniel Levy has been charmed by a serial trophy winning manager and will step up his quest to install him as the next Tottenham boss this weekend, per multiple reports.
Among the many question marks hanging over Tottenham at present is who’ll be their next permanent manager. Ryan Mason took temporary charge after Cristian Stellini was sacked. Stellini was only installed after Antonio Conte too was given the boot.
Mason is understood to want the job outright, though Spurs are targeting a candidate with more gravitas than the inexperienced 31-year-old.
Feyenoord’s Arne Slot was in Spurs’ sights, though the Dutchman elected to remain with the Eredivisie winners.
Former Barcelona and Spain boss, Luis Enrique, recently rejected the chance to succeed Luciano Spalletti at Napoli. Enrique is understood to favour a gig at one of England’s ‘big six’ and Tottenham are the only club with a vacancy.
According to the Evening Standard, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has held talks with Enrique. However, it’s Celtic boss, Ange Postecoglou, who has caught Levy’s eye.
Indeed, the Independent, Sky Sports and Evening Standard are just three of many outlets to report Tottenham are pushing to appoint the Australian.
Firstly, the Independent state Tottenham want their manager hunt wrapped up in the next 10-14 days. To that end, Postecoglou is labelled ‘one of the leading candidates’.
Sky Sports take it a step further, reporting the 57-year-old is emerging as the ‘preferred’ option.
Postecoglou has been a revelation since taking the reins at Celtic in 2021. He’s guided them to back-to-back SPL titles and is on the cusp of a domestic treble.
Indeed, Celtic have already banked the Scottish League Cup and are overwhelming favourites to beat Inverness in the Scottish FA Cup final on Saturday.
The Standard add Levy will step up his chase of Postecoglou once that match has concluded on Saturday evening. Levy is understood to be the one leading Tottenham’s search for a new boss and has been wooed by the Aussie.
Postecoglou has Tottenham ally; thrilling football will return
The Standard claim Levy has been ‘impressed’ by the job Postecoglou has done in Glasgow. What’s more, Postecoglou will soon have an influential admirer in Tottenham’s ranks.
Indeed, fellow Australian, Scott Munn, is due to become Levy’s de facto No 2 when taking the reins as their chief football officer. Munn is described as an admirer of Postecoglou.
It’s acknowledged that aged 57, Postecoglou does not fit the profile of an up and coming manager in the same vein as Mauricio Pochettino did in 2014 or Arne Slot.
However, Postecoglou has earned rave reviews for his ‘high-octane style of play, canny recruitment and charisma’.
Tottenham’s strength undoubtedly lays in their forward line with the likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski.
However, many feel the trio were shackled at times under recent bosses Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte.
That would not be an issue under Postecoglou who could be about to unleash a full throttle style of football on the Premier League with Spurs.
