Tottenham will make a new attacking signing a priority for the upcoming January transfer window, according to a report.
Spurs have an exciting array of attacking talent, but Harry Kane and Son Heung-min are arguably the most vital players. Indeed, the pair have linked up brilliantly in recent seasons. They are now the most prolific attacking duo in Premier League history.
Spurs have struggled for goals this season more than last term, amid a change in tactics.
In fact, Kane netted only his first Premier League goal of the season in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Newcastle. Son also scored in that game and he has scored four in the league.
Lucas Moura and Tanguy Ndombele represent further players in solid form. Still, Kane and Son will provide the bulk of the goals.
According to Football London journalist Alasdair Gold, a new striker is a priority for Tottenham, led by transfer chief Fabio Paratici.
“Definitely. Dane Scarlett will get minutes here and there until then, and that will help the 17-year-old’s development,” the reporter wrote in a Q&A.
“But it’s one area of the squad where too much pressure is being put on two players to share the load and in Kane and Son they’re players who are too key to lose to injuries through overuse.
Spurs in for Napoli's Lorenzo Insigne
Tottenham are said to be interested in Napoli's Lorenzo Insigne, with more news on Sam Johnstone links and Nuno Espirito Santo.
“Then it’s over to that age-old issue of finding a striker of the required quality in the January window who is willing to come and play back-up to Kane.”
Kane tried to leave Tottenham in the summer for Manchester City, but did not get his wish.
But while Tottenham are targeting a new attacker, doubt remains over how long Kane will stay at Tottenham. There is potential for the England captain to reignite his move away in January, in fact.
Tottenham targeting PSG star’s transfer
As for who Spurs could sign in January, Paris Saint-Germain forward Mauro Icardi is reportedly on their radar.
The Argentine forward has fallen down the pecking order in Paris following the acquisition of Lionel Messi, who forms part of the French giants’ ideal front three along with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
As a result, Icardi could consider his future after hitting double figures in each of his previous two seasons in the French capital.
This season, the attacker has scored three goals in 11 games.
However, it is not only Tottenham who are looking at signing him.
