Tottenham have been given renewed belief they can secure the signing of Paulo Dybala this summer amid claims Inter Milan may be forced to shelve their interest.
The Argentine forward becomes a free agent at the end of June and will leave Juventus after seven seasons. In that time, he has scored 115 goals in 293 games, making him an extremely attractive free agent. Indeed, the Bianconeri’s decision to let him leave does come as something of a shock.
They held a series of talks with the player and his agent over an extension. But when his demands got too great, they publicly announced that Dybala was free to move on. Clearly, the announcement came as a shock to the player who admits he did not see his departure coming.
Since then, there has been something of a scramble to secure his services. Indeed, the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham have both been strongly linked with his signature.
Ultimately, the Gunners’ hopes faded when the club failed to secure a Champions League place. And while Spurs did remain in the hunt, they were also forced to take a back seat once Inter’s interest became apparent.
Inter’s Paulo Dybala bid stalling
Indeed, the prospect of a move to Inter would suit Dybala well. He would not need to uproot his family, while he could also continue in a league where he’s enjoyed great success.
However, reports in Italy now claim that potential move to the San Siro is now on ice. As per Tuttomercatoweb, the Italian giants are now asking for a little more time before finalising the transfer.
They seemingly want to review their finances more closely before committing to his signing. Furthermore, their pricey agreement to bring Romelu Lukaku back on loan may have influenced their thinking.
Inter promise to come to a final decision in 10-15 days – leaving Dybala free, in the meantime, to potentially secure a move elsewhere.
As such, TMW claims Tottenham are now back in the mix over his potential signing. They are reportedly following developments closely amid claims they could yet secure his big free transfer.
Spurs are known to have ‘expressed their admiration’ for Dybala. In addition, director Fabio Paratici is said to be not ruling out the possibility of his signing.
Spurs have a decision to make
Antonio Conte is clearly looking for a new attacker this summer as he looks to further strengthen Spurs’ forward line. With Steven Bergwijn likely to leave, Conte wants another forward brought in of some quality.
To that end, a move for Richarlison has been strongly mentioned.
And while the Brazilian would represent a solid signing, his tendency to rock the boat when things don’t go his way represents a risk. For example, how would Richarlison feel if he’s forced to spend more time than he’s used to on the bench!
That’s not a risk Spurs would be taking with Dybala. Competition has always been tough as the Allianz Stadium and he’s regularly faced spells out of the side.

He’s also a player of lower maintanance than the Everton man.
However, Spurs risk missing out on Richarlison if they instead decide to pursue Dybala. That alone represents its own risk, given a deal to take him to Inter could yet go through.
As such, Spurs must decide which of the two forwards they really want. A concerted push for Paulo Dybala now could yet reap a big reward for Conte and Paratici.
