Tottenham out of Paulo Dybala hunt as Levy shock remains despite significant drop in wage demands

Tottenham will not be signing Paulo Dybala this summer because of his wage demands, despite the free agent accepting a wage cut.

Spurs are on the hunt for as many as six new signings as manager Antonio Conte looks to beef up his squad. The Italian knows he needs reinforcements amid the return of Champions League football to the club next season.

And Serie A has proved a happy hunting ground for Conte. He raided Juventus in January for Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur, the pair proving vital in Tottenham’s top-four Premier League finish.

Conte has since snapped up Ivan Perisic from his former club Inter. Dybala, who is leaving Juve this summer, has subsequently emerged on Tottenham‘s radar.

Spurs have a long-standing interest in the Argentine, with chairman Daniel Levy also exploring a deal back in 2019. And with a transfer fee not being an issue this time around, wages are the only problem.

However, the Daily Mail claims that Dybala’s salary demands are proving more than enough to put Tottenham off.

Indeed, at £280,000 per week, Spurs have said they are not getting involved in a deal hunt.

What’s more, that figure is a significant drop from the £373,000 per week he wanted in a new Juventus contract.

As a result, Inter have become the leading contenders to sign Dybala. The Nerazzurri have offered £260,000 per week before tax, but Dybala wants more.

He reportedly has further Premier League interest from Arsenal and Manchester United.

Nevertheless, previous reports claimed that Dybala does not want to move to the Gunners because of their lack of Champions League football.

The 28-year-old’s final season at Juventus saw him score 15 goals and assist six more in 39 games.

Dybala needs new challenge

Dybala has found his feet in Italy having been with Juventus since 2015. However, he has not been the same this season and his move into free agency has come at a good time.

He needs a new challenge, perhaps in another top European league.

Dybala could yet move to the Premier League and it would be exciting to see how the attacker fared in the English top flight.
