Postecoglou storms into lead for €50m Juventus enforcer with Tottenham deal hinging on former Arsenal man

Tottenham are reportedly right at the front of the queue to sign Juventus defender Gleison Bremer amid claims that a possible €50m move to north London was advancing for the Brazil international defender.

Australian boss Ange Postecoglou is looking to make his impact felt in north London after being charged by Daniel Levy as the man to revive their fortunes. And while much of their hopes in the 2023/24 season will hinge on the future of Harry Kane, Spurs have gone about their own transfer incomings in a quick and efficient manner.

Indeed, they have already moved to make five signings this summer. Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski have made their loan moves permanent, while James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario and Mano Soloman have also been drafted in.

Next the Tottenham boss wants to freshen up his central defensive options amid claims Eric Dier is one of four Spurs stars on the chopping block.

On the flipside, Postecoglou has reportedly identified two top targets to step into the breach for Spurs. However, a deal for Edmond Tapsoba will not come cheap amid claims Bayer Leverkusen have a €50m (£43.3m) fee on the Burkina Faso international’s head.

Another target in Micky van de Ven would also set Spurs back €40m (£34.6m). But with just a year’s experience in the Bundesliga, Werder Bremen’s asking price appears prohibitive.

Now though it seems an alternative is arising in the form of Brazilian centre-half Gleison. The 26-year-old was on Spurs’ radar last summer when it became clear he was likely to leave Torino.

He ultimately went on to sign for Juventus in a €50m deal, signing a five-year deal with the Bianconeri.

Tottenham favourites to sign Gleison Bremer

However, Juventus have now made it clear they are open to offers for the central defender. Failure to qualify for the Champions League has hit their coffers hard and a number of stars have been made available for transfers as a result.

To that end, Dusan Vlahovic and Paul Pogba are among the high-profile players to have been made available.

But with sales of either failing to get off the ground, Juventus have also made clear that Gleison could also depart. And amid news they would be looking to get their money back, Spurs have been strongly linked with a move.

And according to Il Bianconero, Tottenham are leading the race to sign the enforcer, with Spurs making it clear they are willing to meet his asking price.

The article states that Postecoglou has already made it clear he wants to push Gleison’s signing through as quickly as possible.

However, while Juventus are willing to trade with Spurs, they reportedly want to bring in his replacement first.

As a result, the article claims they have identied two possible replacements for the three-times capped star.

And top of their wanted list is former Arsenal star Konstantinos Mavropanos, who now plays for Stuttgart.

The Greece international has been with the Bundesliga outfit for three seasons now, spending the first two of those on loan from Arsenal. His impressive form has seen his value shoot up to the €25m mark as a result, with several clubs reportedly in pursuit.

However, Juve are among those keen, seeing the 25-year-old as an ideal successor for Gleison.

Juventus also chasing Southampton star

Their Plan B is reportedly Southampton defender Armel Bella-Kotchap, who is tipped for the top after earning recognition for the Germany national side in recent times.

If Spurs can get a deal done for Bremer, they would be landing an elite defender coming into his peak.

Postecoglou is also being linked with Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, though any deal for the England international is likely to cost nearer the £60m mark.

As a result, they could look instead to push through the signing of Gleison, who is some distance cheaper than Guehi and seen as better value for money than either Van de Ven or Topsoba.
