Tottenham ramp up interest in sensational World Cup star as Conte eyes replacement for veteran

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Sevilla shot-stopper Yassine Bounou, commonly known as Bono, with the Spanish club already working on a replacement.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte is allegedly keen to bring in a replacement for Hugo Lloris in the summer, after he has been in inconsistent form this season.

There’s no guarantee the Italian boss will remain at the London club beyond this season, but Tottenham fans seem to agree that they need a new man between the sticks.

Indeed, it could prove to be a turbulent summer for Daniel Levy and co, as they are faced with the prospect of having to replace Conte if he fails to sign a contract extension in the coming months.

Levy has already lined up a potential replacement candidate in former Spurs and Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino, who is thought to be interested in the job.

Another key area they need to address is their goalkeeper. Since signing for Tottenham in 2012, Lloris has been a tremendous servant to the club, making 443 appearances across all competitions and helping his team to 151 clean sheets.

He has played his role in several successful campaigns. For example, Spurs have finished in the top four five times out of the 10 seasons the Frenchman has spent at the club, also reaching the Champions League final in 2019.

Time for Lloris to be replaced at Spurs?

No one can dispute that Lloris has been a vital player for Tottenham over the years, but the reality is he has made several blunders this season which have cost his team some valuable points.

Now, according to reports coming out of SpainSevilla are looking for a replacement for their goalkeeper Bono, who they say Tottenham are ‘very interested’ in.

Manchester United have previously been linked with a switch for the shot-stopper, but with David de Gea currently negotiating a new deal and Leeds United’s Illan Meslier being considered as a new understudy, it seems they have turned their attention away from the Sevilla man.

The report adds that details of Spurs’ offer ‘have already been made public,’ regarding reports that they had tabled a €20m (approx. £17.8m) bid.

The keeper gained worldwide recognition after putting in some admirable performances for Morocco during the World Cup last year, as he helped the Atlas Lions to become the first-ever African side to reach the semi-finals of the competition.

This season, Bono has continued his solid form, making 20 LaLiga appearances and helping a struggling Sevilla side to five clean sheets.

At 31 years old, the Moroccan is not exactly a long-term option for Spurs. However, he has shown in the World Cup that he can make some outstanding saves on his day, so if he can replicate that form in the Premier League, he will be worth every penny.
