Harry Kane claps after Tottenham game

The role Tottenham talisman Harry Kane will play in the appointment of the club’s next permanent manager has been revealed in a report on Sunday.

Spurs are currently assessing all of their options as Antonio Conte remains in Italy following his now infamous rant after the draw at Southampton that almost certainly looks to have cost him his job.

But Kane’s long-term future in north London looks to be tied to whoever comes in to replace the Italian, especially with the England skipper out of contract in the summer of 2024.

And with that in mind, Football Insider reports that the 29-year-old will be in contact with the Tottenham board over the new manager appointment, and will have a say on the identity of Conte’s successor as part of his contract talks.

The report adds Kane could be tempted to stay at the club, despite others telling him to leave. However, he is demanding that a world-class manager is appointed in the summer, while a change of playing style is almost certain to be in that conversation too.

Spurs have now had three successive managers where the focus has been work off the ball rather than on it and it’s thought Kane wants to get back to the style implemented under Mauricio Pochettino, where high-intensity, possession-based football led to the club challenging for the Premier League title and also reaching a Champions League final.

Ironically, Pochettino is one of the top two names linked with the soon-to-be vacant job. Indeed, the Argentine was the firm favourite with the bookies to return to north London before Julian Nagelsmann was surprisingly shown the door by Bayern Munich.

The 35-year-old has been replaced by another Spurs target in Thomas Tuchel in Munich, despite losing only three matches in all competitions this season.

Football Insider adds that the Tottenham board and Kane are known to be huge admirers of Nagelsmann, who has been considered for the job twice before.

The German is reported to be interested in taking the job and followed a Spurs side with Jurgen Klinsmann in it growing up.

Levy still weighing up Tottenham options

However, the club are currently considering a number of options. They include putting Ryan Mason in interim charge again, giving them more time to get the right man in place.

Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi and former Barcelona and Spain boss Luis Enrique have also been linked with the role. However, there is zero chance the Seagulls will let the Argentine go will they are still in the mix for European football and it’s not felt that Enrique is the right fit.

As for Kane, the striker reached another landmark on Thursday evening when he became England’s all-time record goalscorer.

The 29-year-old, who is already Tottenham’s leading marksman, will get the chance to add to that tally when the Three Lions host Ukraine in a Euro 2024 qualifier on Sunday evening.

As for Spurs, they are back in action on Monday April 3 when they head to Everton in the Premier League.
