Tottenham represent ‘the greatest danger’ for top-class Inter Milan star, with Paratici to blow contract offer away

Alessandro Bastoni and Nicolo Barella

Tottenham are the club most likely to sign Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan, according to reports coming out of Italy.

Bastoni is one of Inter’s most important defenders, having played in 27 matches across all competitions so far this season. The centre-back’s top performances for his club have resulted in him gaining the trust of Italy national team boss Roberto Mancini. Bastoni has appeared 17 times for his country.

The 23-year-old is one of Inter’s most valuable assets. However, there is a chance he could leave the San Siro in the near future.

Bastoni’s Inter deal expires at the end of next season. The Nerazzurri are determined to tie him down through an extension and are in talks with both the player and his agent.

But those discussions have not resulted in any agreement so far and Tottenham are monitoring the situation.

According to a report from Tuttosport last month, Tottenham are preparing to battle Manchester United for Bastoni’s services.

Inter Live have now provided their information on the defender’s future. They claim Inter have yet to agree a contract with Bastoni due to their wage offer not meeting his demands.

Bastoni’s agent is asking for €6million (£5.3m) per year, or £100,000 a week. But so far Inter have only put a contract worth €4.5m (£3.9m) – or £75,000 per week – on the table.

Tottenham can offer Inter ace big money

Spurs director of football Fabio Paratici has more money to play with than his Inter counterparts and can therefore ruin their plans by offering Bastoni more than his agent is actually asking for.

The report claims Paratici is ready to send the Serie A star a contract offer worth €7m (£6.2m) a year. That equals £120,000 every seven days.

Due to their serious interest in Bastoni and financial prowess, Spurs are described as ‘the greatest danger’ when it comes to Bastoni leaving Inter.

It seems Antonio Conte’s side are ahead of Man Utd in the race for him currently.

However, there is one big factor which will influence whether Bastoni moves to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Atalanta academy graduate is a big fan of Conte. Ideally, he would like to work under him when moving to the Premier League.

Conte’s Spurs contract expires in the summer and there is uncertainty over whether he will pen fresh terms. If Conte opts to stay, then Bastoni will likely push to join Spurs.

But if the manager decides to go back to Italy then Bastoni’s transfer to north London will be thrown into doubt.

If Conte departs Spurs, then Bastoni will probably wait until his replacement is announced before making a final decision on joining.

Bastoni is a left-footed centre-half. This means he would replace Ben Davies in the Spurs starting eleven if he moved there.

Bastoni is proving himself to be one of the top defenders in Serie A, so this would be a great signing for Spurs. However, it seems they must resolve Conte’s future before Bastoni can be properly targeted.

Meanwhile, Spurs assistant boss Cristian Stellini has given his reaction after they lost 1-0 to Wolves on Saturday.
