Tottenham push Sergio Reguilon towards exit door with loan proposal on the table

Sergio Reguilon taking a throw-in

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is eager to offload Sergio Reguilon this summer and the defender has been offered on loan to Barcelona, claims a report.

Conte is driving a shake-up of the squad at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The arrivals of Djed Spence, Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Clement Lenglet have only been offset with the departure of Steven Bergwijn.

But the Italian has plans to axe as many as eight players, according to the the Evening Standard. And one of the most prominent on that list is former Real Madrid star Reguilon.

Reguilon was left out of Antonio Conte’s pre-season squad and was left to train in London. A return to Sevilla, where he starred on loan in 2019/20 was on the cards. In fact reports claimed talks were at “an advanced stage” but a deal has not materialised.

And now Spurs have moved to offer the player on a temporary move to Barcelona. That is the latest via Mundo Deportivo, who report the financially stricken club have kept his name “on the table” this summer.

Xavi is looking for some serious competition for Jordi Alba and Reguilon is under consideration.

Reguilon, 25, made a bright start to his career in north London have signing for a fee which could hit £32m two years ago. He penned a five-year deal, but the Madrid-born defender was a Jose Mourinho signing.

Reguilon buy-back clause

He made 31 appearances in all competitions for Spurs last season, but his game time in 2022 was limited. Injuries saw him sidelined, while Conte’s reliance on Ryan Sessegnon grew.

Tottenham have also moved to sign the versatile Ivan Perisic on a free transfer from Inter Milan. And he will be an option at left wing-back as he was during Conte’s time at Inter Milan.

Reguilon does have a uncharacteristic buy-back clause in his contract set at £33.8m.

Tottenham were so intent on securing the full-back two years ago, that Daniel Levy agreed to the clause with Real. Reguilon had come off the back of a brilliant season in Seville and was voted LaLiga’s best left-back.

So Real Madrid have first option on the player this summer, with Spurs still able to make a profit.

However, there has been no inkling of any interest from Los Blancos who look certain to see the clause lapse.
