Tottenham set to battle Liverpool, Man City for Chelsea talent that could be offloaded this summer

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly plotting a move for Chelsea centre-back Levi Colwill, who has had an impressive loan spell at Brighton this season.

The 20-year-old has only featured 15 times across all competitions, but he has still done enough to gain interest from several top European clubs.

Indeed, Colwill is one of the top-rated young players at Chelsea, but with the arrival of  Kalidou Koulibaly, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Marc Cucurella, he could find it difficult to break into the starting XI next term.

With that in mind, the defender could look for a move away from Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea are unlikely to let him go cheaply.

Saying that, after Todd Boehly’s borderline ridiculous spending this season, they could be forced into offloading some players this summer to bring them in line with FFP.

As previously reported by TEAMtalk, Liverpool are big admirers of the youngster, as Jurgen Klopp looks to improve his back line, while Manchester City have also registered an interest.

However, according to the Sun, Tottenham also ‘want’ Colwill and are now eyeing a ‘shock’ transfer to lure him away from their London rivals.

Tottenham enter the race for Colwill

Brighton have been absolutely flying this season under Roberto de Zerbi and currently sit in seventh place in the Premier League table – just seven points adrift from the top four and 10 points better off than Chelsea.

As mentioned, Colwill hasn’t been a consistent starter for the Seagulls this season, but he has still done enough to impress De Zerbi, who recently hailed his ‘quality’ passing ability.

“I know the quality of Levi Colwill. Levi is a left-footer and it is an important quality for us because with Levi we can find different line passes, different solutions in the build-up, in the last 40 metres,” the manager said.

Indeed, passing out from the back is something that has become increasingly important in the Premier League in recent years, so it’s no surprise to see Tottenham enter the race for his signature.

Spurs currently have some decent centre-backs at their disposal, such as Eric Dier, Cristian Romero, Davinson Sanchez and Clement Lenglet.

However, with Lenglet set to return to Barcelona after his loan spell expires at the end of the season, Tottenham will be left with a void at the back.

As a young, strong, talented centre-back, Colwill could potentially be an excellent long-term addition for Spurs, but with his contract at Chelsea valid until 2025, he is unlikely to come cheap.

Transfermarkt value Colwill at approximately £16m. However, with Liverpool and Man City joining Tottenham the race for his signature, his ultimate price tag could end up being much, much higher.

That is, of course, if Chelsea do decide to sell him, with whoever is appointed as the Blues permanent manager next season expected to be given the final say.
