Tottenham signing not foregone conclusion, as alternative solution emerges after attacking midfielder receives contact

Ruslan Malinovskyi

Tottenham Hotspur thought they were on the verge of signing Ruslan Malinovskyi for 2023, but now they might not be, according to reports.

Malinovskyi was on Tottenham’s radar throughout the summer, but he ended up staying with Atalanta. His contract there is only due to run until the end of the season, though. Hence, Tottenham should have a good chance of signing him in 2023.

Some reports have even gone as far as saying there could be an agreement for Tottenham to sign him on a cut-price deal in January.

But any talk of that nature might be premature. According to SportItalia journalist Rudy Galetti, Malinovskyi might not end up at Tottenham after all.

Instead, the attacking midfielder has now become a target for Atalanta’s fellow Serie A side, Inter Milan.

Galetti has claimed there has been contact from Inter to register their interest. The move would allow Malinovskyi to remain in Serie A, while also lifting him up to Champions League level.

Tottenham can also offer him involvement in Europe’s top club competition. Atalanta might be able to yet if they maintain their recent form for the course of the whole season.

It remains to be seen whether Malinovskyi could ditch them in January, or if he would be waiting to become a free agent in the summer before making his next move.

Malinovskyi faces tricky choice between Tottenham and Inter

Either way, he will now face a choice between Tottenham and Inter in terms of his next club.

Both have good pedigree, so it would be a difficult decision for the 29-year-old. Having never played in the Premier League before, would he fancy a new challenge? Or would it be more sensible to stay in a league he is familiar with, but at a bigger club than presently?

There will be a lot of factors for Malinovskyi to weigh up. But the fact he is further demand suggests that Tottenham have at least been looking in the right place when identifying him as a potential target.

Only time will tell if he becomes a player they can have at their own disposal.

Malinovskyi has one goal and assist each from 12 Serie A appearances so far this season. Across his Atalanta career, the midfielder has managed 30 goals and 27 assists from 140 appearances.
