Tottenham close to AFCON enforcer transfer, but dependent on Ndombele loan exit

Sofyan Amrabat Morocco January 2022

Tottenham are in “advanced talks” to sign midfielder Sofyan Amrabat in a loan deal with the option to buy, claims a report.

According to Sky Sport Italia journalist Matteo Moretto, Amrabat emerged on Spurs’ radar in the last week. And both Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici are keen on a deal for the Fiorentina man. The 25-year-old has impressed at the African Cup of Nations where his Morocco side are through to the quarter-finals.

Amrabat played the full 90 minutes as Morocco defeated Malawi 2-1 in the Round of 16.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Amrabat is keen on a move to Spurs. And although negotiations are at an “advanced” stage, the deal is not done yet.

The transfer is reliant on Spurs pushing Tanguy Ndombele out on loan to PSG. If that deal goes through then Amrabat will become a Spurs player. Both transfers look likely to be loan deals, with the option to buy.

Everton also have an interest in Ndombele. However, Ndombele is more likely to go abroad, according to the Athletic’s David Ornstein.

Speaking on the Transfer Gossip Daily, Ornstein said: “From people I speak to, Tanguy Ndombele is more suited to football in a different country in terms of the fact that he doesn’t seem to have settled too well into English football.

“Why would going to Everton solve that issue? Only if there are no teams on the continent who are prepared to pay his salary or present an attractive enough proposition to him.

“He’s been so heavily linked to Paris Saint-Germain and of course Mauricio Pochettino signed him for Tottenham and is now their boss and that would take him back to the city where he grew up on the outskirts.”

The Morocco international arrived at Hellas Verona on loan from Club Brugge in 2019-20.

Verona exercised their option to buy him in January 2020 and immediately sold him to Fioentina, who loaned him back to Verona until the end of the 2019-20 season.
