‘Something will happen’: Insider hints at next step for Tottenham star target they feel is ‘important’

James Maddison, Patson Daka, Leicester City, April 2023

Fabrizio Romano has revealed the feeling is “something will happen” with James Maddison in the summer, and Tottenham consider him an “important player”.

Maddison is experiencing one of the best seasons of his top-flight career. Indeed, he’s scored nine Premier League goals and provided seven assists.

The only time he’s bettered those tallies while playing in the Premier League was last campaign. What’s more, with five games still to go in Leicester’s season, he could well surpass those.

That he’s followed up the heights he reached last season with another great campaign is an achievement in itself.

It’s even more impressive that he’s performing in a team that are underachieving. Indeed, the Foxes are in danger of relegation, currently sitting 18th in the Premier League.

That gives weight to Maddison’s potential exit. He’s been courted by a number of top sides: Tottenham, Newcastle United and Liverpool are among them.

It has seemed for a while as if it’s only going to be a matter of time until Maddison heads to a big club.

Should Leicester drop out of the Premier League, that feels like an absolute certainty.

Romano reveals ‘something will happen’ with Maddison

Transfer insider Romano has added weight to the speculation over Maddison moving on at the end of the season.

“The feeling around James Maddison is that something will happen in the summer,” he said on Youtube.

“Many important clubs are following the situation. Tottenham remain interested in Maddison.

“It’s true that they still don’t have a new coach, they still don’t have a new director.”

Indeed, there are various things that need to fall into place before the deal would become a simple one. However, Romano has revealed Tottenham are definitely in the mix for the snare, despite those things not being in place currently.

“These are two crucial points to decide on the future signing, so this is why at the moment nothing is advanced,” Romano added.

“But people at Tottenham are still following Maddison and considering him an important player who could become a summer target.”

That shows how much of an impact Maddison has made on Spurs. With that being said, it would not be a surprise at all if they were to undergo a massive effort to snare him.

It would certainly give whoever takes the manager’s job an easier task if the Englishman was to join. Indeed, there’d be another quality to star to help the side’s performances.

That feels like it’s needed at the moment, with a few players not fully pulling their weight this season.
