Tottenham attacker in talks over next move as ‘several clubs’ want star who’s ready to say goodbye

Tottenham attacker Lucas Moura is reportedly ready to leave the club in the summer, and ‘several clubs’ are lining up to take him on board.

Lucas has had some big moments in a Spurs shirt. The biggest by far was his hat-trick against Ajax in the 2019 Champions League semi-final second leg.

His heroics that night led Spurs to the final, where they were beaten by Liverpool. Living up to the expectations following one of the best games and performances in the club’s history would be hard for any player.

The attacker has not avoided the burden of that. Indeed, attacking contributions have been hard to come by of late – Lucas scored just twice in 34 Premier League games last season, along with six assists.

That the Brazilian is no longer one of the main attacking options to call upon is fairly clear. Indeed, Spurs’ other choices up top are Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison and now Arnaut Danjuma.

The former pair are two of the most potent assets in Tottenham’s history. What’s more, Richarlison was recently bought for £60million, so getting past any of those stars seems a tough task, and Danjuma was clearly loaned in in January for a reason.

Tottenham’s views on Lucas were made clear in January. Indeed, reports suggested they were ready to sell him, with three Premier League clubs on his tail.

That would’ve guaranteed Spurs received a fee, as he’ll be free to move on in the summer if they don’t renew his contract, a decision which they’ve apparently already made.

Lucas has wealth of options

He’s had little chance to change the club’s mind and prove he’s worthy of a new contract this season. Indeed, injuries have meant he’s been limited to just eight league appearances so far, all from the bench.

So it looks like the attacker will be moving on at the end of the season. He’ll not be short of options though, according a report from UOL Sport.

They suggest Lucas has ‘already’ received enquiries from ‘several clubs’ wanting him to join them and his agent is ‘moving forward’ with talks.

What’s more, it’s reported interested parties are in ‘at least three countries’, including: England, Italy and France, though no clubs have been named.

A move to a club in any of those countries would be in line with the attacker’s aims. Indeed, the report suggests he ‘wants to remain in the Old Continent (Europe)’.

What’s more, he’s keen on a ‘long-term project’ and is expected to sign a deal ‘active for three seasons’. As such, it seems he’ll have ample opportunity to prove his worth to whichever side he goes to.

Lucas can come good again

The past couple of seasons haven’t shown Lucas at his best, which isn’t a surprise for a 30-year-old. However, he’ still shown he’s a capable attacker.

The right role in the right system can do him good. A player who’s been involved in more than 60 goals in 200 games at Tottenham won’t just lose his ability overnight.

However, he needs to be an environment which is conducive to his style of play.

Were he to move to a mid-table Premier League side, for example, but get consistent minutes, he’s surely have a good impact.
