Tottenham backed to sign £60m target for vastly-reduced fee as transfer twist alerts Conte

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte

Tottenham are being urged to test the water once again by moving for a summer transfer target, having been informed by one observer that his asking price could now be half the fee originally quoted.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte is gearing his side up for what he hopes will be a successful second half to the season. Under the Italian’s management, Spurs are through to the last 16 of the Champions League, a competition Conte insists he believes his side can do well in.

Tottenham are also nestled in fourth place in the Premier League table, enjoying a three-point buffer over Manchester United. And securing their place in the Champions League again next season will be their minimum aim for the rest of the campaign.

In order to maintain – and even build – their momentum, Conte is reportedly making ambitious plans for the January transfer window. Last time around, Spurs brought in Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentacur from Juventus. The two stars both had a positive impact as Spurs enjoyed a strong finish to the 2021/22 campaign.

Now Spurs are looking for a repeat and with cash at his disposal, Tottenham are drawing up plans for a number of new arrivals. First up is a new defender with reports of a swap deal with Inter Milan seemingly on the cards.

In addition, Spurs are also plotting another raid on Juventus with Weston McKennie once again in their sights.

And there are also exciting reports that Fabio Paratici is looking to bring a 13-goal Bundesliga striker to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium too.

However, Spurs may also get lucky if they try again for summer target, Anthony Gordon.

Tottenham told of Anthony Gordon price decrease

The Everton star was the subject of a failed approach from Paratici, with the Toffees demanding around £60m.

However, Gordon has struggled with form and fitness this season, having just three goals to his name. Indeed, he has just one goal in his last 10 outings for Everton.

And now, according to pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor, Spurs could sign Gordon in January for around half the previous fee.

“That £60million has come down to £30million,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.

“I feel like he doesn’t do enough, he doesn’t score enough goals, for me. He’ll get the odd one or two and then go quiet.

“There’s a reason why he’s on the bench, he’s not doing enough.

“Maybe, has the interest from Chelsea got to his head? He’s got to knuckle down.

“He should have been one that should have been in the running for the World Cup. Now he’s gone quiet and he’s not even being talked about again.”

Gordon has three years left on his Everton deal and despite his recent quiet spell, Everton would prefer not to sell. However, with funds tight at Goodison Park, Frank Lampard may be tempted to cash in should a sizeable offer land on their doorstep.

Lampard is having to get creative in his efforts to get the Toffees upwardly mobile. Defensively they look much tighter this season, but it is in attack where they are struggling. Indeed, the Toffees have just 11 goals from 15 games – that joint second-lowest total in the Premier League so far this season.
