Tottenham banging down door for deadly Serie A striker as Postecoglou battles Man Utd, Chelsea
Tottenham are reportedly ‘at the window’ of Juventus with a £55.5million offer, though Manchester United and Chelsea are also part of that battle.
There has been potential that Vlahovic could become a Premier League player for over a year. Indeed, before he made the reported £66.6million move to Juventus, a couple of English sides were keen on him.
Arsenal were the main side in the pursuit, though Tottenham were also mentioned at times.
Vlahovic has been a useful player for Juventus when he’s been on the field – scoring 10 goals in 27 Serie A appearances last season – but they may now need to sell him.
Breaches of financial rules meant they were docked points in Serie A last season. Due to that, the sales of some of their more expensive assets have been mooted.
Vlahovic is surely one of their most saleable assets, and big names have identified that.
Manchester United and Chelsea are among them. The Blues were reportedly ready to send five players to Juventus in order to receive Vlahovic in return.
Some of those players have now left Stamford Bridge, but it seems they’re pursuing the striker in another way. Indeed, a recent report stated Mauricio Pochettino’s side were closing in on an agreement for the striker, in a deal worth around £68million.
Tottenham in mix for Vlahovic transfer
They’re not the only two sides from the Premier League that are in the mix for Vlahovic, though.
Sport Mediaset reports Tottenham are ‘at the window’ along with their league rival pair, with an offer ‘not less than’ €65million (approx £55.5million).
If Juve do need to drum up some cash, it won’t really matter who they sell to, as long as they do. Given the choice from a footballing perspective, from Vlahovic’s point of view, it would seem the clear choice currently is United.
They finished third in the Premier League last season, and a deadly striker could be what they need to tie things together and fight for honours.
While the other sides are busy in the transfer market, putting together good squads, right now, moving to United seems to give Vlahovic the best chance to succeed.
Question mark over Kane if Vlahovic joins Tottenham
Tottenham’s current transfer model in terms of strikers seems inherently flawed. Indeed, they signed Richarlison for £60million last summer, and unsurprisingly, given he was essentially Harry Kane’s understudy, he didn’t do very well – scoring three goals.
As such, if Vlahovic was to join, the move would raise questions over whether they expect Kane to stay.
Surely they’d not sign a third striker for such a large fee in order just to compete with the others.
Perhaps they are planning for a future that Kane is not in, but not for next season. Indeed, his contract is up next summer, so Vlahovic could be given a season to find his feet before being elevated to the starting spot, when Kane may depart.
