Tottenham bid £18.8m for readymade centre-back, as Postecoglou eyes Man Utd, Man City stars in major defensive revamp

Tottenham have lodged an ‘official offer’ of £18.8m for a Danish centre-half, while a report has claimed stars from Man Utd, Man City and Wolves are also wanted as the Ange Postecoglou revolution takes hold.

An alarmingly poor defensive record is among the main reasons why Tottenham endured a chastening campaign this year.

Indeed, Spurs’ mark of 63 goals conceded placed them sixth-worst in the league. The teams with more goals conceded finished 15th, 16th, 18th, 19th and 20th.

Clearly, new boss Postecoglou must address his side’s leaky defence and according to reports, that’s likely to come via the aid of the transfer amrket.

Indeed, with Joe Rodon’s permanent move to Rennes falling through, the defensive exits in north London may now swell to five.

Aside from Rodon who Spurs are likely to entertain offers for, the Telegraph named Clement Lenglet (loan expiry), Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Ben Davies as players who could make way.

Four of those five are centre-backs, meaning at least two new signings must be made if Spurs are to truly overhaul their backline.

To get the ball rolling, reports out of Turkey (as cited by Spurs Web), bring news of a bid being lodged for Victor Nelsson of Galatasaray.

The 24-year-old Denmark international has been in Turkey since arriving from Copenhagen in 2021.

The right-footer was a regular starter for Galatasaray who boasted the meanest defence in the Super Lig this year. Galatasaray cruised to a 23rd league title when beating nearest challenger Fenerbahce by eight points.

Spurs have reportedly lodged an ‘official offer’ worth €22m (approx. £18.8m). Per the report, it has not been accepted, though a slightly increased bid of €25m (approx. £21.4m) will see Galatasaray say yes.

Man Utd, Man City, Wolves stars wanted

The online outlet state Harry Maguire, Aymeric Laporte and Max Kilman are also on the agenda in north London.

Both the Telegraph and Daily Mail recently brought news of Man Utd being willing to axe Maguire this summer. The two newspapers stated Tottenham are interested in the 30-year-old England international.

talkSPORT subsequently reported Maguire is digging his heels in and won’t leave Old Trafford without a fight. If the player does not wish to move, Spurs may be better served pursuing alternative targets.

Laporte is another on Tottenham’s radar and Man City won’t stand in his way if the 29-year-old pushes to leave.

Laporte is no longer a regular under Pep Guardiola and City have also opened talks over the signing of £97m-rated RB Leipzig ace, Josko Gvardiol.

The final player cited by 90min is Max Kilman of Wolves. Of the trio, he looks the easiest to sign.
