Tottenham chiefs prepare hijacking of Gleison Bremer transfer with huge new bid touted

Torino defender Gleison Bremer

Tottenham could scupper Inter Milan’s efforts to sign Gleison Bremer in a move that could offset any disappointment over Alessandro Bastoni, per a report.

Spurs have wasted little time getting the pieces in place to oversee a successful summer. Ivan Perisic looks certain to join after undergoing a medical in London on Monday. The Croatian veteran, 33, is expected to assume the left wing-back role, though is equally adept at operating further forward when required.

Another position Antonio Conte is keen to address is centre-half. Given the Italian deploys a back three, excellent strength in depth is required.

Talk of a move for either Torino’s Gleison Bremer or Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni has swelled in recent weeks.

Reports from Italy on Sunday suggested Inter are close to wrapping up an agreement to sign Bremer. The 25-year-old would move to Inter as the readymade replacement for Bastoni – if indeed the Italian is moved on.

However, according to Calciomercato, Spurs may yet throw the cat amongst the pigeons and hijack Inter’s move for Bremer.

The outlet acknowledge Inter’s quest to sign Bremer is advanced with a verbal agreement over a five-year deal reportedly in place.

However, it’s stressed Inter must watch out for Tottenham who may make a ‘serious assault’ on their transfer hopes. The Antonio Conte-Fabio Paratici tandem is described as ‘ready to invest’ €50m (£42.5m) to sign the Torino colossus.

AC Milan, Juventus and PSG are also named as others who could yet have a say in Bremer’s future. Though it’s stressed Spurs through their Italian connections and Conte specifically are the biggest threat.

Regardless, should Inter complete their move for Bremer, the report talks up the possibility of Spurs landing Bastoni instead.

An offer in the region of €60m (£51m) is reportedly being evaluated. Though it stands to reason Bastoni would only be move on once Bremer is through the door.

Why target Bremer over Bastoni?

Bastoni is well known to Conte through their time together at Inter Milan. However, there may be another reason why Tottenham would move for Bremer over Bastoni despite the fact he could be around £8.5m cheaper.

The Evening Standard recently reported Bastoni may not be as open to leaving Inter as first thought.

Spurs therefore have some convincing to do. But if they’re unable to twist the Italian’s arm, Bremer would represent a more than ideal alternative.

The Brazilian could also be signed on far lower wages than Bastoni.

Tuttomercatoweb reported on Sunday Bremer’s reported move to Inter would see him paid £48,000-a-week. That is far below Bastoni’s current salary at Inter and would be even further below what he’d earn at Spurs.
