Tottenham firm up interest in ‘robust’ Serie A striker after Harry Kane ‘refuses’ new contract

Harry Kane Tottenham September 2022

Tottenham Hotspur have turned their attention to a deal for Fiorentina striker Arthur Cabral after hearing Harry Kane would not be signing a new contract this summer.

Kane is into the final year of his deal with Tottenham, where he is the all-time leading goalscorer. With no trophies to his name, though, the striker is considering his future. He has become a top target for Bayern Munich, who could practically guarantee him medals after winning 11 Bundesliga titles in a row.

There is a growing belief that Kane wants the move to Germany. However, Bayern would have to agree a fee with Tottenham, which would not be easy.

Nevertheless, a sale is possible – especially after The Times revealed that Kane ‘refuses’ to entertain the idea of signing a new contract with Tottenham this summer.

He could yet stay and wait for better offers next year, but Bayern are appealing enough as a destination. Therefore, if it would be in the club’s best interests to raise funds, Spurs could sell for around £100m (which is more than Bayern have been offering so far).

In that case, the attention would quickly turn to finding a suitable replacement. They already have Richarlison in their squad, but he struggled for goals after his 2022 move from Everton.

Hence, Tottenham will be in the market for another centre-forward if they lose Kane. According to the Daily Mail, one option they are considering more is Cabral.

Cabral could earn Tottenham transfer

Across 18 months with Fiorentina, Cabral has scored 19 goals from 64 games. His form significantly improved last season – his first full campaign with the club – as he scored 17 times across all competitions.

Previously, he scored 65 goals in 106 games for Basel, who brought him to Europe from his native Brazil.

Still only 25 years old, the former Ceara and Palmeiras talent could be ready for the next step of his career. If the price is right, Tottenham could be the club to bring him to the Premier League.

Cabral’s contract with Fiorentina is due to last for another three seasons. It is not yet clear how much it may take to prise him away from last season’s Europa Conference League runners up.

Described as ‘robust’ and ‘mobile’ by the Daily Mail, Cabral is also deemed to be ‘strong in the air’ and capable with either foot.

Interestingly, Cabral is not the only Brazilian striker tipped to join Tottenham as a Kane replacement.
