Tottenham firmly in the mix to sign midfield pressing machine perfect for Postecoglou game plan
Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing a Lyon midfielder who is considered to be a perfect fit for Ange Postecoglou’s pressing game.
The Australian is expected to implement a completely new style of play at Spurs next season that will involve a higher intensity, more attacking approach and knows he needs to make additions to his squad that will fit in.
To that end, he is said to be chasing Ligue 1 star Maxence Caqueret, who is also a major target for Borussia Dortmund.
While Postecoglou also has other targets who are probably more under consideration, FootMercato states that Caqueret remains an option.
The 23-year-old, who is reportedly on £49,000-a-week, is being tipped as a real under-the-radar signing for the north London club.
The central midfielder, who is a regular at France Under-21 level, was outstanding for Lyon last season. Indeed, he scored four goals and added seven assists in 36 games in all competitions.
Caqueret was described as ‘one of the best pressers in Europe’ back in 2021 but has since developed his game further by adding a goal threat.
His style of play is regarded as perfect for what Postecoglou wants from his midfield engine room in terms of winning the ball back quickly and going on the attack.
Lyon star could replace Spurs stalwart
There has already been talk of midfield stalwart Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg being moved on this summer, among several other top Spurs players.
Postecoglou can also slim his squad down a little, with no European football, emphasising quality over quantity in the process.
And while little is known about Caqueret, it appears he has all the qualities the new Tottenham manager loves in a midfielder.
To that end, the link certainly appears one to watch as many changes prepare to take place in north London this summer.
