Tottenham hijack free capture of flying Prem forward with Levy ‘at the front of the queue’

Bryan Mbeumo and Manor Solomon

Tottenham Hotspur have begun to show an interest in Manor Solomon after his loan spell at Fulham from Shakhtar Donetsk, according to a report.

Solomon will be available on a free transfer this year after FIFA ruled that he can suspend his contract with Shakhtar for another year. That would take him beyond when his deal was due to expire anyway, enabling him to sign for a new club without a transfer fee.

Fulham would like to keep him, but it is actually Tottenham who are ‘at the front of the queue’ to sign him on a permanent basis, according to The Athletic.

Although Daniel Levy is yet to find a new manager or sporting director for Tottenham, the club’s remaining decision makers are ‘exploring’ a move for Solomon.

Reports in his native Israel as far back as February suggested Spurs might make an approach for Solomon, who now appears to be a concrete objective for the club.

The winger has scored four goals in his debut Premier League season, which all came in consecutive appearances during a productive spell stretching across February and March.

In total, he has amassed 23 appearances and five goals in all competitions, which has indicated the potential he has to develop into a useful asset to an English top-flight team.

Staying with Fulham could allow him to continue his progress under Marco Silva, but Tottenham might try to tempt him to consider a different kind of challenge.

Tottenham trying to usurp Fulham for Manor Solomon

Going into the final day of the season, it is still up for question as to whether or not Tottenham will have European football on offer next season. The best they can hope for is a Europa Conference League spot, but missing out altogether is plausible.

Even so, they have been used to being in the upper regions of the table in recent years, unlike a Fulham side who have in all fairness consolidated and impressed this season after returning to the Premier League.

Solomon would be able to remain in London by choosing either option. He is yet to decide where he wants to play next season, though; it simply won’t be back in Donetsk.

Mainly a left winger, he would have to compete with Son Heung-min for a place at Tottenham. Son has not been his usual self this season, so the arrival of more competition could put pressure on him.

Due to turn 24 in the summer, Solomon could be a long-term successor to gradually take over from the South Korea international.
