Tottenham lock horns with Napoli for lethal forward nicknamed the ‘hurricane’, but key rule prevents immediate arrival

Gambia under-20 striker Adama Bojang

Tottenham are battling Napoli for the signing of a hattrick hero nicknamed the ‘Gambian hurricane’, though a key rule would delay his arrival in north London, per reports.

Spurs’ No 1 striker is unquestionably Harry Kane. The Tottenham and England talisman, 29, is under contract in north London until the end of next season.

Manchester United and Bayern Munich both hope to lure Kane away this summer through the promise of major silverware. However, Kane may yet stay loyal to his boyhood club and pen fresh terms.

Regardless of whether Kane stays or goes, the biggest clubs like Tottenham must always keep one eye on the future.

To that end, the Daily Mail report Spurs are sizing up Gambian sensation, Adama Bojang.

The 18-year-old plays for Steve Biko FC in his home country and his dazzling displays this year have earned him the nickname the ‘Gambian Hurricane’.

Bojang operates primarily at centre-forward and caught the eye during the recent AFCON Under-20s tournament.

Bojang memorably scored a hattrick in the quarter finals in a 5-0 romp against South Sudan. Even more impressive was his matchwinner against favourites Nigeria in the semi-finals. Gambia would ultimately finish the tournament runners-up to Senegal.

The Mail report Bojang’s exploits have caught the eye of numerous clubs in Europe. Tottenham and Napoli are the highest profile pair, while Belgian side Royal Antwerp and Nottingham Forest are also smitten.

Adama Bojang responds to transfer links

When recently made aware of the transfer links to European sides including Spurs, Bojang admitted he’s thrilled to hear the news.

However, displaying maturity beyond his years, Bojang stressed he intends to make the circling sides want him even more by improving his consistency.

“I’ve heard about the news and I am excited about it,” he told BBC Sport Africa.

“It boosts my morale. I’m focusing more on consistency which motivates me a lot, because seeing such clubs following you is a great feeling.

“Through consistency it will make them hungrier for me.”

In the event Spurs do make a move for Bojang this summer, they’ll have to wait at least a year before seeing him turn out in north London.

That’s because the Mail add Premier League sides ‘would need to loan him out at first before he could qualify for a work permit.’

The rules and regulations on work permits for continental European sides are less strict, meaning he could be signed by Spurs and then loaned out to mainland Europe.
