Tottenham manager latest: Inter tipped to scupper deal for proposed Conte replacement working wonders at current club

As doubts continue over the long-term managerial situation at Tottenham, it appears that Inter Milan are ready to scupper a proposed move for one of Daniel Levy’s top targets.
Antonio Conte still remains the club’s current boss despite his extraordinary rant after the draw at bottom club Southampton, with rumours suggesting that it is only a matter of time before he gets his marching orders.
At this stage, the likelihood is that assistant coach Ryan Mason will take over as interim manager again until the end of the season.
The former Spurs midfielder filled that role after Jose Mourinho was sacked, so at least he has that experience to draw on.
Turning to Mason will happen if none of the club’s top targets to replace Conte want to step in mid-season. That scenario is odd, however, given that three major targets in Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel and Luis Enrique are all currently out of work.
Of the names still in employment Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi, Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim and Eintracht Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner are all embroiled in critical stages of their club’s campaigns.
However, it appears that Seagulls boss De Zerbi could be bound for the San Siro instead this summer.
According to Wednresday’s edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, Inter have made De Zerbi, Bologna’s Thiago Motta, Fiorentina’s Vincenzo Italiano and Conte himself their main targets in the event that they decide to axe Simone Inzaghi.
Inzaghi’s future is in doubt, with Inter having lost three of their last four league games and currently sitting third in the table, a whopping 21 points behind runaway leaders Napoli.
Conte also on Inter Milan radar
The San Siro outfit are known to be tempted by a return for Conte, although he did fall out with them before despite title success in 2020/21.
De Zebri is also a major option though after working wonders with Brighton since taking over in mid-September.
The Seagulls currently sit seventh in the table but are only seven points off fourth-placed Tottenham with three games in hand.
Spurs are thought to be considering De Zerbi as a different Argentinean option to Pochettino, with some doubts still creeping in over bringing the popular 51-year-old back.
However, they may have no choice if De Zerbi fancies a return to Italy, having had previous spells with Palermo, Benevento and Sassuolo.
As for Conte, as and when he does go, there are rumours that sporting director Fabio Paratici will follow him out the door.
Tottenham are back in action on Monday April 3 when they head to Everton in the Premier League. It just remains to be seen who will be in charge for that game.
