Tottenham manager latest: No.1 target urged to ‘shock Premier League’ with final decision

Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Vincent Kompany to “say no” to Tottenham advances and “shock the Premier League” with Burnley.
Kompany’s English coaching career has started off on the front foot. With six matches still to go in his first season, he’s already got Burnley promoted back to the Premier League.
Indeed, the Clarets have been seen as the best side in the second division all season. They’re currently 14 points clear at the top of the table.
As a result of their success throughout the campaign, Kompany has been praised a lot.
It’s not often a manager with little experience inspires such success so early on. But because he has done, there are a lot of eyes on him.
Tottenham are said to be particularly interested in his success. Indeed, a report has stated Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is blown away by Kompany’s efforts, and has made him the no.1 target for the vacant manager’s role.
That’s apparently something the former Manchester City man is happy with, too.
Indeed, that report suggests he is ‘willing to listen’. As such, an approach is expected ‘in the coming days’.
Agbonlahor urges Kompany to avoid Spurs
However, it doesn’t seem everyone thinks this would be a good move for Kompany. Former Premier League striker Agbonlahor has strongly urged him to avoid Tottenham.
“I can see why they’re looking at Kompany, but if I was Kompany I would say no. Capital letters, NO,” he said on talkSPORT.
“The way Spurs are at the moment as a club, why would you touch that?”
There’s no denying taking the Spurs job would be massive for Kompany. He’s managed for not even a year in England, with a second-tier side, and is now being courted by a ‘big-six’ club.
The problems aren’t really as big as Agbonlahor is making them out to be. They’ve got a good squad and are still fighting for a top-four spot this season.
Kompany could make statement with Burnley
However, the pundit feels Kompany could, and should, make a statement with Burnley instead.
“He’s got Burnley into the Premier League, give it a go with Burnley and even if he didn’t keep Burnley up, what he did with them in the Championship is still going to attract Premier League jobs,” Agbonlahor added.
“Why would you leave Burnley… he could, in the summer, bring in the right players and have a good go with Burnley and shock the Premier League.
“You know like Sheffield United did, Leeds did? He could do that with Burnley.”
Sheffield United went down two seasons after coming up, and other than the first season, Leeds have been clinging on for life in the Premier League. It’s not easy for a newly-promoted side to sustain their push.
While there’s a chance of success at Burnley for Kompany, surely there’s a better one at Tottenham.
