Tottenham order Postecoglou to bring best Celtic player to Spurs, with money set aside for new Scottish transfer record

Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi and manager Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham want Ange Postecoglou to bring Celtic’s best player to London if leaving Glasgow, and a £30m move would set a new Scottish transfer record, per a report.

Postecoglou, 57, has emerged as the odds-on favourite to become the next permanent Tottenham manager. The Australian recently presided over part three of a domestic treble when guiding Celtic to a 3-1 victory over Inverness in the Scottish Cup final on Saturday.

However, that may be the Australian’s final act as Celtic boss, with a Tottenham approach now expected.

Indeed, the Independent recently reported Spurs’ approach would come following the cup final. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is understood to be smitten with Postecoglou who is earning rave reviews for his ‘high-octane style of play, canny recruitment and charisma’.

The Daily Record then claimed Celtic are growing increasingly worried they’re about to lose Postecoglou.

Adding to that fear is the fact Postecoglou only signs 12-month rolling contracts and his current deal will soon be up. As such, Tottenham won’t have to pay to buy Postecoglou out of his contract.

Now, according to the Sun, Postecoglou isn’t the only key Celtic figure the Scottish giant could lose.

Tottenham want Kyogo Furuhashi too

The newspaper state Tottenham ‘want Ange Postecoglou to bring Japan striker Kyogo Furuhashi with him from Celtic’.

Kyogo, 28, has been a revelation since arriving from Vissel Kobe in a deal worth £4.5m in 2021.

Kyogo bagged 34 goals in 50 appearances for Celtic this term and was handsomely rewarded for his efforts.

Indeed, the awards for PFA Scotland Players’ Player of the Year and SFWA Footballer of the Year both found their way into Kyogo’s hands.

Tottenham reportedly view the Japanese frontman as someone who could tick multiple boxes in north London. It’s stated he could play in partnership with Harry Kane, instead of, or even be his long-term successor.

To that end, Spurs have reportedly set aside £25m-£30m for the transfer. As such, a Kyogo move is all but guaranteed to break the Scottish transfer record. The current highest sale remains Kieran Tierney’s £25m move to Arsenal in 2019.

The Sun add that aged 28, Kyogo may find it difficult to turn down the chance to play in the Premier League.

What’s more, it’s noted Postecoglou taking the reins in north London would greatly increase the chances of the move taking place. Indeed, Kyogo would be safe in the knowledge he’ll have a manager who knows he can count on him when it matters most.
