Tottenham raise offer for agitated Prem goalscorer who is ‘excited’ by Paratici plan while Chelsea wait

Leandro Trossard is “excited” by the latest development that Tottenham Hotspur are increasing their offer to sign him from Brighton, a report has revealed.

Trossard’s desire to leave Brighton this month is no secret. Roberto De Zerbi has left him out of their squad to face Liverpool on Saturday, citing a lack of communication – something that Trossard’s agent has accused the head coach himself of being responsible for.

Indeed, the Belgium international’s representative issued a strongly worded statement on Friday, implying that Brighton’s only solution is to sell his client this month.

In that case, Tottenham are keen to offer him the next step in the Premier League. There have also been rumours he could follow ex-Brighton boss Graham Potter to Chelsea.

But Spurs seem to be the leading candidates to sign him and a report has revealed the next steps they are due to take in their pursuit.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham have already failed with a verbal offer to Brighton, but are now ready to step up their pursuit by making a new, bigger offer.

The report does not suggest how much Trossard may cost. It is worth remembering that he is under contract until June with the option of a further 12 months. Some sources believe Brighton have already activated that option, allowing them to protect his market value.

And despite him pushing for a move, Brighton want to keep Trossard in January, it is claimed. If he can repair his relationship with De Zerbi, he could add to his seven goals from 17 games this season (including five from 11 under the Italian).

Trossard stance on Tottenham interest is promising for Paratici

But convincing Trossard to stay seems to be a difficult task for Brighton. Indeed, the report claims he is “excited” that Tottenham want to sign him.

After all, Trossard wants to step up to Champions League level. Tottenham have a last-16 clash with AC Milan coming up in that competition. Furthermore, they are only a couple of points away from the top four of the Premier League with plenty of games remaining on the calendar this season.

Therefore, Spurs’ managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, could be taking encouragement in negotiations.

Tottenham have identified Trossard as a potential replacement for Lucas Moura. Reports have indicated that the Brazilian will be leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Hence, Spurs need more options to call upon in the attacking third. Trossard is a versatile option who has played on the wing, in attacking midfielder or up front this season. With that in mind, he could complement what Antonio Conte already has at his disposal.

And at the age of 28, Trossard will be giving some of his best years to whichever club he joins next.

Football Insider‘s report reminds that Chelsea are keeping tabs on his situation too. But he is not a priority target for them, which means Tottenham feel now is their best chance of winning the race to sign him.
