Tottenham ready to blow rivals away with bumper contract offer to France star excelling at World Cup

Tottenham are reportedly ready to offer an experienced France international midfielder a bumper contract to convince him to move to north London.

Sporting director Fabio Paratici is expected to have a busy January as he plots to bolster Antonio Conte’s squad in the race to secure a top-four spot, while Spurs also have a Champions League last-16 tie with AC Milan to look forward to.

Conte’s men currently sit fourth in the Premier League table. However, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea are all expected to breathe down their necks when domestic action resumes.

To that end, Paratici is expected to bring in two, possibly three new additions to the Tottenham squad.

Conte is well known to want another centre-back. Meanwhile, a new right wing-back and creative midfielder are also on the agenda.

However, according to CMW.it, Spurs are willing to offer a bumper contract to Juventus star Adrien Rabiot to convince the Frenchman to sign for the club.

The 27-year-old has got his career back on track over the last six months.

He has also been one of France’s better performers at the World Cup. However, he was forced to miss their semi-final clash with Morocco through illness.

The absence of injured duo Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante could have been a disaster for Didier Deschamps’ men, but Rabiot has stepped up to guide them into the last four in Qatar.

However, his future remains unclear in Turin, with Rabiot’s contract running out next summer.

Battle is on for Juve star Rabiot

Tottenham were first linked with the midfielder in November, when London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea were both being tipped to make a move. Liverpool Newcastle and Manchester United have also been mooted as potential destinations.

But now CMW.it claims the north London club have stepped up that interest. They add that Conte thinks the midfielder has the ‘perfect profile’.

Paratici is also a big fan of the player, having brought him from PSG to Juve in 2019.

The report adds that Rabiot seems unlikely to sign a new contract at Juventus. That is largely down to the fact that he is demanding a deal worth €7m (£6m) plus bosses.

Tottenham are willing to go one better than those figures though. Indeed, they are willing to offer Rabiot a contract worth €8m (£6.8m) to convince him to sign up.

Despite all the talk of a transfer, the addition of Rabiot to Conte’s squad does appear a little unnecessary.

Rabiot’s style of play is like a hybrid of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur. But perhaps that is what Conte wants, in order to allow him to bring in the creative midfielder that many pundits claim is the missing link in this current Tottenham team.

Spurs are back in action on Boxing Day when they head to Brentford in the Premier League.
