Tottenham rocked as regular starter confesses ‘desire for something else’ at ‘end of an era’

Hugo Lloris has confirmed that he wants to explore his options away from Tottenham Hotspur this summer after weeks of speculation about his future.

Lloris remains under contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for another year, but has come under scrutiny for some of his performances this season. Therefore, there is a feeling that he won’t be their first-choice goalkeeper next season.

He might not even be at the club in any capacity after rumours of a mega-money offer from Saudi Arabian side, Al Hilal.

Wherever he goes, Lloris has now opened up on what the future might hold – telling Nice Matin that it could well be the ‘end of an era’ this summer.

The 36-year-old said: “We have reached an important moment, whether it be for the club or me.

“It’s the end of an era. I have a desire for something else. I will carefully study what is possible.

“However, I haven’t forgotten that I have a year left on my contract at Tottenham, and in football, it’s always hard to predict what will happen.

“What is essential at the moment is to recover well from my injury. I’m on vacation but I continue to talk and do my training. My goal is to be on top in July, then we’ll see what the future holds for me.”

As for where he will find himself next season, Lloris added: “The most important thing is I find a project where I thrive.”

Hugo Lloris responds to Nice rumours

While the move to Saudi Arabia might be his most lucrative option, the former France captain has also been tipped to go back to the first club of his career, Nice.

Addressing that option, he said: “Nice is my city, my club, my roots.

“There is a season that must end, as best as possible, with the goalkeepers in place. I am not demanding, I have never forced things. We’ll see where fate takes me.”

Nice’s current goalkeeper is Kasper Schmeichel, who has faced some criticism since joining them from Leicester City last summer.

Lloris has already insisted that Schmeichel should be shown respect, but perhaps he could take his place next season.

Tottenham would have to receive an appropriate bid in order to let their captain go. At his age, though, the valuation shouldn’t be excessively high.

Lloris has been with Tottenham since 2012, when they bought him from Lyon. He has made almost 450 appearances for the club in that time.
