Tottenham top contenders as Brazilian centre-back states wish to make Premier League move

Udinese player Rodrigo Becao

Tottenham are reportedly well in the mix to sign a Brazilian centre-back from Udinese, who is also on the radars of both Arsenal and Everton.

Rodrigo Becao’s name has cropped up in the Italian media a fair bit over the last few days, with a trio of Premier League clubs as well as Inter Milan and Torino all keen on his services.

Tutto Udinese stated last week that Spurs are willing to make an offer to sign the defender.

That has been backed up this week by Messaggero Veneto. They reported the 26-year-old is wanted by many clubs, but that Tottenham and Inter lead the way.

The report adds that Becao wants a fixed price inserted in his contract, if he opts to sign a new one at Udinese.

The Brazilian’s deal expires in 2024, hence his current club trying to agree terms on a new one.

Despite Inter and Torino’s admiring glances, Messaggero Veneto adds that the player himself favours a change of scenery and a move to England.

Becao has received the ‘most interesting offers’ from the Premier League, with Everton wanting him to replace Yerry Mina.

The Colombia international’s four-year stint with the Toffees has been plagued by injuries. He only recently returned to action after an 86-day absence in a calamitous 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

Now, Everton are reportedly set to part ways with Mina. Indeed, the defender is currently the club’s highest earner with a reported wage of £120,000 per week.

Arsenal are looking to add another Brazilian centre-back to the mix to compete with the impressive Gabriel and William Saliba.

Conte desperate to land new centre-back

However, it’s Spurs who arguably have the greatest need at centre-back.

Antonio Conte always lines up with a back three, but his current options are giving him cause for concern.

Eric Dier’s form has dropped alarmingly since he won a recall to England colours, while Cristian Romero has been beset by injury issues and Clement Lenglet has not yet shown the qualities to tempt Tottenham to turn his loan from Barcelona into a permanent deal.

Ben Davies has been the most consistent of the three, when called upon. But, ironically, he remains the one Conte wants to replace.

Whether or not Becao, who has yet to be capped by Brazil, could carry his form from Italy to England is another matter.

To that end, his signing could be seen as some what of a gamble. But with Conte finding it tough to land Alessandro Bastoni from Inter, he could be forced to look elsewhere.
