Tottenham transfer for Everton key man talked up amid demand to fix one position

Jordan Pickford, James Tarkowski, Everton, October 2022

Darren Bent has tipped Tottenham to make a surprise swoop for a key Everton man amid demands to fix one position in the Spurs side.

Spurs have seen an upturn in their fortunes since Antonio Conte took charge at the club. After a sixth and seventh finish the two seasons prior to him taking over, he guided them to fourth spot.

Indeed, that allowed the north London outfit a chance to play in the Champions League for the first time since 2019/20, when they were knocked out in the round of 16.

Their return to Europe’s elite competition this season saw them top their group.

On top of that, Conte has got them sitting in the Premier League’s top four again at present. They are just one point behind third-placed Newcastle United, too.

As such, it would seem that the Tottenham squad is thriving under his management.

There are a lot of players that have hit their straps under the Italian. However, there are also some players that have come into question.

Jamie Carragher believes the “defenders & keeper” are not at the level they should be at to be playing for Tottenham.

Spurs tipped to move for Pickford

There have been a number of goalkeepers linked with a move to Tottenham of late. It seems that after next season, Hugo Lloris will be moved on.

He is under contract until summer 2024, so having a new man in place before that time seems wise. TEAMtalk recently revealed that Jordan Pickford, Robert Sanchez and Illan Meslier are on the shortlist to take up the role.

Former Spurs striker bent thinks Pickford would be a fantastic choice to take over from Lloris.

“Lloris, for me, he’s obviously getting on now. He’s over the age of 30, he has started to make one or two mistakes,” he said on talkSPORT.

“So there’s no reason why Jordan Pickford – he’s there, he’s ready – why would you not take him at Spurs?”

That he has been England’s no.1 for a number of years shows how much quality the goalkeeper possesses. He has been performing in the Premier League for years with Everton, and he is still only 28.

As such, his top-level career should last a good while longer.

It would be a weight off Tottenham’s shoulders to know they have a man in net who will perform for years. With Everton struggling, and having done so last season too, Pickford could be ready to move up the table.

Indeed, moving to Spurs could certainly be a good transfer for him.
