Tottenham to swoop for Chelsea new boy as Postecoglou moves to replace Conte favourite
Tottenham are reportedly closely following the situation of Marc Cucurella, as Ivan Perisic looks close to leaving the club.
New Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou is already putting his own spin on things in north London. While he’s activated the permanent snare of Dejan Kulusevski and is interested in signing Clement Lenglet – both who were at the club last season – he’s making his own moves too.
The first of which was the statement snare of James Maddison – a big move not least because he’s a great player, but also given the attacking-midfielder could have chosen Newcastle United, but cited Postecoglou as a reason he opted for Tottenham.
Another big call from the new manager was bringing in goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. The 26-year-old will provide competition for long-time incumbent no.1 Hugo Lloris.
The Frenchman was poor at times last season, and bringing a player in to challenge him shows a clear desire from Posctecoglou to improve his side.
Given Tottenham finished eighth last season, those improvements are likely far from over.
There are still multiple star names being linked with the club for transfers this summer.
One of which is Jadon Sancho, who despite not having pulled up any trees in his tenure in the Premier League so far, could be a useful asset in the English top flight in the right system.
Tottenham closely following Chelsea new boy Cucurella
Postecoglou has reportedly got his eye on another player that’s not done much at his current side, but is clearly a good player.
Indeed, Football Transfers reports Spurs are ‘closely following’ the situation of Chelsea left-back Cucurella. He’s only been at the club since this time last year, but started just over half of the Blues’ league games last season.
Having failed to nail down a consistent spot, a few reports have suggested the left-back could make way for other signings.
As such, there’s certainly a chance Chelsea let him go to Tottenham. In fact, Football Transfers suggests they’re ‘desperate’ to offload him, though he wants to remain.
Cucurella to replace Conte favourite
The pursuit of Cucurella is yet another example of Postecoglou shaping the squad how he wants it. While it’s obviously still got flavours of previous managers, some of those are fizzling out.
Left-back Perisic – who was only bought by former manager Antonio Conte last season – apparently wants to leave the club after making 44 appearances last term.
He’s apparently so serious about his desire to ditch the north London outfit that he’s willing to cancel his contract in order to do so, rather than see out another year.
A separate report has suggested he’s likely to be sold. Either way, the general consensus is that he wants out and will probably get his wish.
As such, Cucurella would be a direct replacement for him, and that’s one reason for interest in him.
