Tottenham told top LaLiga clubs will ‘fight’ to keep big-name duo from clutches of Antonio Conte

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell claims that Tottenham will find it difficult to try and sign two major LaLiga stars in 2023.

Spurs are likely to be in the hunt for a new goalkeeper next summer and have been strongly linked with Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Barcelona stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Hugo Lloris has been No.1 in the white half of north London for 10 years but turns 36 on Boxing Day.

That has led sporting director Fabio Paratici to start looking at alternatives for the France World Cup winner.

Oblak, 29, is known to be first choice but Ter Stegen, 30, is also on Tottenham’s radar as they search for a long-term successor to their club skipper.

However, Campbell doubts that Atletico’s Diego Simeone or Barca chief Xavi would be willing to do any business.

Campbell told Stadium Astro: “To get him out of Atletico Madrid, it’s going to be tough. It’s going to be tough because you look at Atletico Madrid, you know they are a good side.

“But trying to get someone from Simeone is going to be difficult to prize him away. Simeone will fight tooth and nail because he knows Oblak is that last line of defence, who he can really rely on.

“When they won the title. He was instrumental in them winning the title.

“I think he will want to keep Oblak. But he’s a top, top keeper.”

As for Ter Stegen, Campbell added: “I can’t see Barcelona selling him. He’s instrumental. They are top of the table in Spain. Very good with his feet. I can’t see Xavi (letting him go).”

Lloris still tipped for France return

As for Lloris, his current contract expires in 2024. However, it would come as no surprise if Tottenham looked to make the change next summer rather than let the player’s age potentially creep up on him and start to affect performance.

One thing that is highly unlikely is Lloris remaining as the club to sit on the bench.

Before signing a new deal earlier in the year, the veteran stopper was linked with a return to France. It would therefore come as no surprise if that was the eventual outcome.

Lloris has made 428 career appearances for Spurs in his decade at the club. However, he remains without a trophy for all his efforts.

He is expected to be back in action on Wednesday evening when Antonio Conte’s men welcome Eintracht Frankfurt to north London in the Champions League.

Tottenham currently sit second in Group D and a win over the German outfit will give them a big chance of progressing to the knockout stage.
