Tottenham transfer news: Fabrizio Romano breaks huge news on elongated chase for game-changer Pedro Porro

Lisbon, 12/29/2022 - Sporting Clube de Portugal received this evening at EstÃdio José Alvalade XXI, in Lisbon, Futebol Clube Paços de Ferreira in the game of the 14th round of the I Liga Portugal bwin, season 2022/23 . Pedro Porro

Tottenham appear to be on the brink of announcing the capture of Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon following a big update from transfer insider Fabrizio Romano late on Saturday evening.

The Spaniard emerged as Antonio Conte’s top choice to upgrade the right wing-back position some weeks ago. However, negotiations between Spurs and Sporting have not been straightforward.

The Portuguese outfit have been adamant all along that the player’s release clause of near £40million be met.

And while Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was initially loathed to adhere to that figure, it appears that some common ground has finally been met.

Indeed, Romano states that the transfer should be sealed within the next 24 hours.

The right-back will sign a contract with Spurs until 2028 and will be heading to London on Sunday to wrap up the final parts of the deal.

This comes just a day after a report from the Daily Mail that claimed the transfer could collapse over how the payments of the deal would be structured.

However, Romano adds that the north London club have been in control of the situation all along. Adding that have never feared that the deal for Porro would collapse, having made him their No.1 target.

Adding the 23-year-old to Conte’s squad will give Tottenham a significant upgrade over their current right wing-back options.

Porro arrival set to signal Tottenham exits

It’s also likely to mean that Djed Spence heads out on loan, while Emerson Royal could still be sold – if the right offer comes in.

Porro impressed twice against Conte’s men in the Champions League group stage this season. And those performances clearly stuck in the mind of the Italian, as his current options in that position continue to struggle.

Matt Doherty is currently Conte’s first choice but while the Republic of Ireland star is more of an attacking threat, his defensive work is an issue. Royal, meanwhile, is the complete opposite, while Spence has never been given that chance to show what he can.

For Tottenham, landing Porro could be the spark they need to finish the January transfer window with a bang. Especially if they can get another centre-back on board.

Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar continues to be heavily linked with a switch to north London. However, PSG also have eyes on the Slovakia international and remain favourites to complete deal.

Spurs are back in action on February 5 when they host Manchester City in the Premier League.
