Tottenham, West Ham plot eye-catching move for £50m Chelsea star Caicedo, Lavia could replace

Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are considering a move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, according to reports. 

The Blues are close to signing Moises Caicedo for a new British record fee of £115m and the England international could see his minutes diminish as a result.

Chelsea are also believed to be leading the race to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton. Mauricio Pochettino could therefore be willing to part ways with Gallagher, but only for the right price.

Gallagher made 35 appearances for Chelsea last season, scoring three goals and making one assist in the process. 18 of these outings saw the midfielder come off the bench, though.

As a result, it’s thought Gallagher would be open to leaving Chelsea in favour of more consistent playing time elsewhere.

Several clubs have previously shown an interest in signing him. Everton were reported to be ‘close’ to signing Gallagher in January, for instance, while Newcastle also considered making an offer for him.

It now seems Tottenham and West Ham could make their move, with Ange Postecoglou and David Moyes both keen on adding another quality midfielder to their squads before the transfer window slams shut.

Tottenham, West Ham consider move for Gallagher

According to Football Insider, Tottenham and West Ham are the only clubs ‘still in the race’ for Gallagher after Newcastle decided to pursue other targets.

The report notes Chelsea could sanction the sale of the midfielder as they look to ease Financial Fair Play concerns, with the Blues set to splash £115m on Caicedo.

It isn’t clear how much Chelsea would be willing to sell Gallagher for. Previous reports suggest, however, that an offer in the region of £40m-£50m could be enough to secure his services.

As mentioned, Postecoglou is keen to add another midfielder to his squad before the transfer window closes.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been heavily linked with a departure from Spurs for some time but Postecoglou will only let him leave after they have signed a replacement.

West Ham, on the other hand, have already sold Declan Rice to Arsenal for £105m and now Manchester City are pushing to sign Lucas Paqueta.

Moyes has already brought in Edson Alvarez to replace Rice but if Paqueta also leaves, the Hammers may well make an offer for Gallagher.

With that in mind, Gallagher is certainly a player for Spurs and West Ham fans to keep an eye on over the next couple of weeks.
