Tanguy Ndombele told he’s ‘finished’ – but major hurdle puts brakes on Tottenham exit

The prospect of Tanguy Ndombele securing an exit at Tottenham this month appear to be fading due to the midfielder’s excessive wage demands.

The £54m man – Spurs’ record signing – has failed to find his consistent best since moving from Lyon in 2019. And now it seems both player and manager are pushing for a divorce after his actions in Sunday’s FA Cup tie with Morecambe.

As per The Athletic and via several newspapers, Ndombele is hopeful of leaving by this summer at least. However, talks are being accelarated for his departure while the January window is still open.

That’s amid claims that Conte, as well as other senior figures at Spurs, were ‘disappointed by Ndombele’s actions’ on Sunday.

As reported by The Athletic, the French midfielder opted to leave the pitch slowly when substituted during the win over Morecambe.

He was also booed by a section of Spurs fans – and now it seems the writing is on the wall.

However, despite having prospective suitors in both Roma and Juventus, it seems his huge wage demands could scupper the deal.

As per The Sun, Ndombele still has three-and-a-half years left to run on his deal worth £200,000 a week. And it seems the player will have to take a massive financial hit if he’s to bring an end to his Spurs struggles.

And as things stand, that seemingly is something the midfielder is currently unwilling to do.

As such, there looks to be plenty of hard negotiating to be done before Tottenham can offload the player. It may also take a potential loan arrangement too, with Spurs having to supplement his wages.

Tanguy Ndombele finished, claim pundits

Either way, BBC Radio Five pundit Chris Sutton insists there is no way back for Ndombele at Spurs.

“As soon as he did that it became about him and moping around,” said Sutton in reference to him walking slowly off.

“It’s not done him any favours.

“There is no excuse in that situation to walk off that pitch slowly when your team is losing. That is not understanding what the club is about or what the supporters want,” he said.

“His team was losing an FA Cup tie, they were being humiliated.

“This goes against Ndombele. When things like that happen, it’s hard to see him have future at Spurs.”

Former England goalkeeper Rob Green also believes the cup tie could mark the end of Ndombele’s Spurs career.

“It is one big mistake to trudge off the way he did straight down the tunnel,” Green said. “It’s poor.

“There is only one decision that Conte will make and he won’t play again.”

Sutton said the midfielder has shown he is “a sensational player” at Spurs, but only “in patches”.

“He is such a talented player, it’s how Conte gets that talent out of Ndombele,” added Sutton.
