Trevoh Chalobah transfer race hots up as rivals Tottenham join pursuit amid Chelsea fears
Tottenham are the latest club to have registered an interest in taking Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah in on loan, according to reports.
Chelsea’s transfer window has been rife with movements in the defence. Indeed, both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen left for La Liga this summer.
The Blues have added Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella to their ranks at the back. They join the likes of Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta, Reece James and Chalobah as players who can play in the heart of defence.
However, there are still potential moves to be made before the end of the window. Chelsea are being linked with the big-money transfer of Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana, who has reportedly already agreed personal terms.
As such, Chalobah, who started 17 league games last season, will likely be pushed down the pecking order.
It has already been reported that the Blues are willing to let him go out on loan, with Inter Milan keen on a transfer.
Now, two other clubs have thrown their hats in the ring to take him on board. The Evening Standard reports that Tottenham and Roma are interested in Chalobah.
The report also states that Chalobah is concerned at a lack of game time, with more arrivals pending.
As such, a move away from Stamford Bridge could do him some good.
It remains to be seen whether either side with fresh interest will approach Chelsea.
Tottenham a good move for Chalobah
A move to Tottenham seems a good one for Chalobah. He has shown in his 30 senior Chelsea appearances – all of which came last season – that he is a competent Premier League player.
Continuing to develop in the English top flight should shape him into a quality player. He would surely be afforded a good deal of game time at Spurs, too.
Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez were used sparingly last season, and he could overtake them in the pecking order. With five substitutes now allowed in the Premier League, there will be more opportunities, and Chalobah could snatch them at Spurs.
He may also be afforded decent opportunities at either Inter or Roma. It seems a move away from Chelsea is a good bet though, especially if they secure another signing at the back.
