Osimhen makes admission on Chelsea star as well as hyping up tough Tottenham man

Victor Osimhen, Napoli, February 2022.

Victor Osimhen has given Premier League-centric interview in which he has name-dropped Tottenham and Chelsea stars as some of the best in different aspects.

Osimhen has been prolific in front of goal during his time at Napoli. Indeed, he has scored 20 goals since joining from Lille in the summer of 2020.

The Nigerian forward missed the recent Africa Cup of Nations due to a facial injury. He could have had a major impact on the tournament, given he has scored 10 goals in 18 Nigeria appearances.

The forward has drawn comparisons to an elite African striker, Didier Drogba in the past. In an interview with Football Italia he name-dropped the former Chelsea star as an inspiration of his.

“I like Drogba, but not just as a footballer,” he said.

“I like leaders and he was it on and off the pitch, where it counts the most. He has a personality that I admire.”

Following on from talking about one Premier League star, the 23-year-old named another. He named Cristian Romero among the toughest defenders he has faced in his career.

“[Cristian] Romero, who is now at Tottenham. He was always faster than me every time we faced each other. The other one is Kalidou Koulibaly, he never let me score in training. When Nigeria were eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations, I supported Senegal,” he said.

While the comments may not be connected, it is interesting that he has named a Premier League pair.

Osimhen is reportedly being tracked by Spurs. As such, he could join up with Romero, after he praised his abilities as a defender.

Also in the interview, the Napoli forward named his favourite striker within Italy.

“[Ciro Immobile] I think he is extraordinary,” he said.

“He always squeezes past defenders. He is always in the right place at the right time. You may not see him, but he is always there and makes everything look so easy, especially scoring goals.”

Indeed, Immobile has scored 173 goals in Serie A across 280 appearances. Should Osimhen get near that tally, he would likely be very happy.
