Wantaway Tottenham star Harry Winks tipped to join Premier League newcomers in surprise move

Harry Winks on the ball for Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks could be a summer transfer target for Premier League newcomers Nottingham Forest, according to one pundit.

The 26-year-old is a former academy product of Spurs who has made more than 200 appearances for the club in all competitions. However, although his contract runs until 2024, it’s common knowledge that the north London club are willing to sell.

Winks has found life tough under Antonio Conte, who prefers the duo of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur in his engine room. And with Oliver Skipp returning from injury this summer and Conte also looking to bring in another body centrally, Winks will be very much on the outside looking in.

Indeed, he could follow Tottenham‘s record signing Tanguy Ndombele out of the door, along with Argentine Giovani Lo Celso.

And, according to Sky Sports pundit Alex McLeish, Winks would be a good fit for Forest.

He claims that a player with Winks’ experience could be invaluable to Steve Copper’s men. However, they may have to fork out around £20million to land the Newcastle, Southampton and Sevilla target.

Winks a good option for a promoted club

McLeish told Football Insider: “There will only be a certain club who will pay that sort of money.

“It’s possible that teams who have come from the Championship, Nottingham Forest might look at Harry Winks or someone like that.

“He’s certainly got the good experience for some of the teams at a lower level than Tottenham.

“But £20million seems quite high, especially for a guy who’s been out the team for almost the entire season.”

Winks actually made 30 appearances for Spurs in all competition last season, scoring once and adding two assists.
