World class centre-back Conte is desperate to sign ‘wasting time’ in hope of Tottenham transfer call before deciding on next move

Tottenham have been alerted to an update about a top centre-back target who is waiting on a call from sporting director Fabio Paratici before potentially extending his stay in Milan.

Milan Skriniar has been on Paratici’s radar ever since he arrived at the club, and those links only grew stronger after the defender’s former Inter boss Antonio Conte also moved to north London.

The 27-year-old has now entered the final six months of his contract in Italy and can sign a pre-contract with a foreign club.

At this stage, it’s claimed that a free transfer summer switch is more likely than a January move for a player who is also on PSG’s radar.

And now journalist Rudy Galetti has shared an update on what the future holds for the Slovakia international.

While it’s reported that PSG hold the upper hand over any transfer, Galetti has a different take which is better news for Spurs.

He states that Skriniar hasn’t yet signed a new contract at Inter because he’s waiting to see if Spurs will make him an offer.

The journalist said on 1 Station Radio, as quoted by Tutto Juve: “It will take a few days to decide his future. He’s wasting time to understand how possible a possible transfer to Tottenham is, a club looking for a central defender.

“The English [club] also like Kim and Bastoni; the Slovak is more attractive because of his expiring contract. It will take a few more days to know the future at Milan.”

That will certainly be music to ears of Tottenham followers, however, they need help now in their fight for Champions League football.

Spurs’ season hanging in the balance

There is a real danger that the wheels could come off their season after back-to-back losses to Arsenal and Manchester City.

Doubts also continue over Conte’s long-term future, while the club do not want to spend without a commitment from the Italian.

Add in the fact that Conte is likely to be key to any deal for Skriniar and it mostly points towards the player either staying in Milan or heading to Paris in the summer.

Conte is desperate to bring in three or four new additions this month. However, there are currently no signs that anything is imminent, with Sporting star Pedro Porro the closest to a move.

Galetti does not state whether Inter are open to a cash deal this month, which would certainly suit Spurs.

To that end, any potential transfer remains in limbo for a player repeatedly labelled ‘world class’ in Italy.

Tottenham will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they head to Fulham on Monday evening.
