Jamie O’Hara has revealed why the capture of Yves Bissouma is ‘extra sweet’ for Tottenham, while the pundit also hailed Antonio Conte for his part in the move.
On Tuesday, Tottenham agreed a fee with Brighton to sign the central midfielder. They will pay just £25million – a relative steal in today’s market – as Bissouma will soon enter the final 12 months of his Brighton contract.
The move is likely to go through this week, with Bissouma currently preparing to travel to London and sign his Tottenham terms.
It will last for several years, although the exact details of the contract are yet to emerge.
Arsenal and Aston Villa have previously been on Bissouma’s trail. But Spurs have won the race for his signature, continuing their impressive summer window.
Conte’s side have already brought in Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster, both on free transfers. Therefore, Bissouma will become their third senior capture and the first they have paid money for.
O’Hara, who made 56 appearances for Spurs, has revealed why the Bissouma deal is ‘extra sweet’ for the club. He also spoke about the ‘Antonio Conte factor’, which is helping them to complete such good transfers.
“I think he’s a great signing for Spurs, I really do,” O’Hara told Grosvenor Sport. “I really liked him last season at Brighton – athletic, good on the ball, strong, shows good quality. He’s a really good signing.
Yves Bissouma deal getting done ‘early doors’
“What I love about it is the fact that again it’s another signing that Spurs are going to get done early doors.
“I know there were other teams after him – Arsenal, Man United. But it seems as if players are starting to pick Spurs over anyone else, which is the Antonio Conte factor.
“With Spurs now and the facilities they’ve got, they really mean business. I’m really surprised how well the transfer window is going for them right now.
“The Bissouma move is extra sweet for Spurs fans. That’s the biggest thing right now, Spurs are getting players over their rivals like Arsenal.
Spurs agree deal for Yves Bissouma
Spurs have agreed a £25 million deal for Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma.
“They shop in the same window as Arsenal and in the past, last summer, Arsenal had the better transfer window, but this year… We’re only in June – it’s ridiculous that Spurs have signed three players already, it’s unheard of for Tottenham.
“For Spurs to get a player of that quality over Arsenal just shows where they are now and how big getting that Champions League spot was. It’s showing that Spurs are going to attract the better players to their team.”
It doesn’t happen too often, but O’Hara is right. Spurs’ qualification for the Champions League, and capture of Conte, is helping them to land players they previously wouldn’t have been able to.
The three signings will help Spurs massively as they look to make an impression in next season’s UCL. Squad depth is a must to compete on several fronts, and that is what Spurs are achieving.
The north London outfit might not be done yet, either. They are also looking into the possibility of bringing an Inter star to the Premier League.
