Journalist claims split dressing room under West Brom boss

West Bromwich Albion manager Valerien Ismael during the Sky Bet Championship match at The Hawthorns

West Brom players have mixed opinions on Valerien Ismael’s style of play, per a report.

West Brom currently sit third in the table and are sure-fire contenders for promotion this season.  However, fans have had split opinions over Ismael’s high-pressing style of play. Now, journalist Steve Madeley has claimed these opinions are shared in the dressing room.

In The Athletic, he wrote:  “I have certainly heard no suggestion that any players are agitating or really unhappy but, as in any dressing room, there are a variety of opinions. Some really enjoy high-press football because it suits their style, some quite like it, and others aren’t fans.

“But players are generally fairly happy as long as results are good, which they have been, and in this case, they would all prosper financially in the event of promotion.”

As he catapulted Barnsley into the play-offs last season, Ismael became notorious for his unique style of play.

Now, the French-German coach has attempted to implement the same style at the Hawthorns.

Whilst still at the top end of the table, West Brom have lost their last two games away from home.

It would be harsh to suggest Ismael is struggling with life at West Brom, but it is clear things aren’t going exactly to plan.

Veteran tipped to shine

Robert Snodgrass should get more game time, according to former striker Kevin Phillips.

Snodgrass impressed at the weekend as his side cruised past Bristol City to win 3-0.

Now, Phillips has claimed the Scotsman’s experience should earn him more minutes on the pitch.

Speaking to West Brom News, he said: “I would like to see more of him. Snoddy’s got experience and he stood out to me.

“I’m probably a little bit surprised he didn’t start [away at Swansea last week] and maybe be a little more cautious. However, that may show Ismael’s style, home and away they’re going to go for it and press, which you have to give him credit for.

“Snodgrass has that experience to guide people around him.”
